Book: Slammed by Colleen Hoover

★★★★/★★★★★

"I got schooled this year
by
a
Boy.
a boy that I'm seriously, deeply, madly, incredibly, and undeniably in love with.
And he taught me the most important thing of all…
To put the emphasis
On life."

This is one of those books that I instantly captured my heart. The kind of story that made me want to read more and more and more. It's beautiful and sweet and romantic and touching and it's b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. I felt every emotion in me that it made Colleen Hoover my new favorite author. Really!

And I fell in love with slam poetry! Man, I love poetry and this book just inspired me even more.
"everytime you fall down, everytime you cry... something inside you closes, something inside you dies... you feel your heart aching, you feel your world stop... something inside you hurts, something inside you snaps..." See? Tsk. Anyhoo, I loved everything about the book. Seriously.

So here how it goes. After losing her dad, Layken and her family moved from Texas to Michigan. Here, she meets their new neighbors, Will and Caulder, who she and her brother, Kel, instantly become friends with. Layken and Will immediately develop an attraction with each other and they are getting along well until Layken finds out that Will is actually her teacher. Everything else gets messed up when Will prioritizes his job, and Caulder, over Layken. Of course, Layken understands that he needs to take care of Caulder but with each passing day that her feelings for Will grow stronger, she can't help but get mad at him because he can't even fight for what they're feeling.

"My poem is called mean." I face the front of the classroom and proudly recite my poem from heart.
According to the thesaurus…
and according to me…
there are over thirty different meanings and substitutions for the word
mean.
(I quickly yell the following words; the entire class flinches-including Will)
Jackass, jerk, cruel, dickhead, unkind, harsh, wicked, hateful, heartless, vicious, virulent, unrelenting, tyrannical, malevolent, atrocious, bastard, barbarous, bitter, brutal, callous, degenerate, brutish, depraved, evil, fierce, hard, implacable, rancorous, pernicious, inhumane, monstrous, merciless, inexorable.
And my personal favorite—a**hole.
-Layken

The story tells us that there are certain things in life we can't do anything about. That there are things we don't have control over with. Like losing the important people in your life, falling deeply in love with someone and having to choose what to prioritize in life. And sometimes it is so hard you just want to slap life right in the face.

"Don't take life too seriously. Punch it in the face when it needs a good hit. Laugh at it."
- Julia to Lake

I also love how Colleen emphasized the importance of family and relationships n this novel. That after bouncing from one family to another, Eddie finally found someone who is willing to be her Dad. And how Julia trusted Layken and Will to make right decisions for themselves and how Kel and Caulder became best of friends. The characters were all good so much I can't choose one as my favorite. I think I love them all! :D

And Gavin and Eddie were so cute plus Joel is the sweetest!!!

Overall it was a very good book so I give it 5-stars. And trust me when I say that when you read this one, you can't get over it for a week. No, months! No!! Forever! :)

LOVE?

I was reading a National Geographic magazine last week and I found a very interesting article about love.

LOVE. Scientists think that female fickle orgasm may have evolved to help them distinguish Mr. Right form Mr. Wrong. -Helen Fisher

*Love and obsessive-compulsion disorder could have a similar chemical profile.
Translation: Love ad mental illness may be difficult to tell apart.
Translation: Don't be a fool. Stay away.

Lol. We should take this advise seriously. Stay. Away.

We love whom we love not so much because of the future we hope to build but because of the past we hope to reclaim. Love is reactive, not proactive, it arches us backward, which maybe why a certain person just "feels right." Or "feels familiar." He or she is familiar. He or she has a certain look or smell or sound or touch that activates buried memories.

I also believe on this one. We get attracted to someone because there's something in him\her that reminds us of something. Maybe it's the smell or the way he\she touches you or the way he\she says your name I'm not sure but there is always something familiar on him\her that reminds us of something. Or someone.

Novelty triggers dopamine in the brain, which stimulates feelings of attractions. So riding a roller coaster on a first date is more likely to lead to second and third dates.

Next time I know where to take my date. :">

Love, it seems, lights up certain areas of the brain and releases chemicals that provoke hyperactivity and exhilaration. That's why spellbound lovers stay up all night to see the sun rise, take extraordinary risks to see each other, or, as Britain's Edward VIII did, throw a whole country aside for "the woman I love." Love can be dangerous. - Chris Johns

I got interested with the article that I read it though it was already 2 in the morning. It's about love why else? :) And I really loved the line, "Sometimes, love appears when you least expect it."

Find Love...

when the sun kisses your cheeks in the morning...
when your whole family sits for breakfast...
when your friends call just to say "hi"...
when your neighbor gives you a smile...
when a random kid at the supermarket waves at you...
when an old lady finds you beautiful...
when the traffic enforcer helps you cross the street...
when a grandma gives you a flower...
when you rescue a trapped cat...
when you smell the flowers...
when you look around...
find love... everywhere...

Poem: A Camera and A Hand...

I will travel the world with a camera
Europe, Asia, Australia and America,
I will visit the places I want to see,
The Eiffel Tower, the pyramids, the statue of Liberty...

The languages, the cultures and different foods
I believe that everything will be so good,
Meeting people and experiencing new things,
I will collect memories and feelings...

But I won't be alone coz I'm holding a hand
I'll be with someone who understands,
We will travel happily and together,
We will cherish our moments til forever...

So I just need a camera and a hand
Then it's like I have a magic wand,
We'll travel and travel and travel the world,
We'll be happy to go around the world...

On a concert. At the stage.

When the lights go out and everyone starts screaming.

Best. Night. Ever.

I always love concerts. I love seeing my favorite bands on stage performing my favorite songs. It's like everything inside me jumps, everything inside me explodes and I feel alive! Especially that moment when the lights go out and everyone starts screaming because you know that this is it, you're finally seeing the love of your life live! Then there they are, your favorite band singing for you. They will sing you the songs that made you fall in love. The songs that help you get through your day, through your worst and best days. The music will drown you but you feel more alive than ever. You feel free and happy and you as you dance and sing along.

Every concert is your best night ever. Every band is the love of your life. You may love only one or two or more and it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter as long as they inspire you and give you hope and make you happy and they make your life a little better.

Music is about the bands, the concerts, the songs and the people who love it. It's about us. And your music is yours. Your choice, your love.

And who knows, someday when someone asks you where you met your husband/boyfriend, you’ll be smiling when you tell them,
"On a concert, at the stage."
