KDrama: Seven First Kisses 2016

[SEVEN FIRST KISSES]

The excitement was real when it was announced that Lotte Duty Free was making a promotional web series and seven of Korea's top male actors were going to be in it. Everyone went crazy, I did, because when the first six lead actors were announced, it was heaven. I mean, Lee Joon gi, Park Hae jin, Ji Chang wook, Kai, Ok Taecyon, and Lee Jong suk in one web series? Dream series of every girl!! And the hype didn't stop there because when they finally revealed that the last lead actor was going to be Lee Min ho, Oh. My. God. Have I told you how much I love Lee Min ho?! So there, I was sold the moment I found out that Lee Jong suk, Ji Chang wook and Taecyon would be in it but when I heard that Lee Min ho would be in it too? OhmygodOhmygodOhmygod!

The series opens with our pretty Min Soo jin (Lee Choo hee), an employee at Lotte Duty Free, on her 25th birthday. Soo jin has never been in a relationship before and thinking back she kinda feels sad about spending her past birthdays always without a boyfriend. But it must be her lucky day because the goddess of fate (Choi Ji woo) happens to be at Lotte Duty Free to give her a present.

Ji woo stops by Soo ji's desk to ask for some information and leaves without noticing that she's left her passport behind. Soo jin, seeing the passport, runs after her but isn't able to catch her. After returning to her desk, Soo jin notices for the first time that it's not really a passport. And while she's busy examining the passport-look-alike, Ji woo has returned to her desk. For returning what Soo jin thought is her passport, Ji woo decided to grant her a wish in return. She lets Soo jin pick among 7 different men the one to be her first kiss. (Yay. I hope I have a fairy godmother like her!) One moment Soo jin is talking to Ji woo, the next Ji woo is gone. And there begins the seven first kisses when Soo jin finds the 6 blank cards in front of her. (Yes, only six. *wink*)

"First Kiss." Lee Joon gi
First among the seven is Lee Joon gi, a handsome, rich guy, who suddenly marches in front of Soo jin at her desk telling her he's going to wait for her outside. Of course, Soo jin is stunned when she realizes that Joon gi is actually talking to her. Later, she's surprised to see Joon gi waiting and leading her inside his car after asking to just give him a chance to spend the day with her.

I'm not a big Lee Joon gi fan but I like him as this tech billionaire who pampers his girlfriend! And that little video by the end of the episode is really sweet!! :)

***

"Dangerous Boss." Park Hae Jin
Next one is the strict but romantic boss, Park Hae jin. After the "kiss" Joon gi and Soo jin shared, Soo jin finds herself back on the same spot before that Lee Joon gi experience happened. And looking at the cards in front of her, it surprises Soo jin to see Lee Joon gi's photo now on it. Enter Park Hae jin, Soo jin's boss who catches her using her cellphone during work. Because of it Hae jin confiscates the cellphone telling her to get it at his office after work. So Soo jin drops by his office to get her cellphone after work but ends up having dinner with Hae jin. Later, their story turns dark when Soo jin finds pictures of her at Hae jin's table. Thinking that Hae jin is a stalker or something, she runs away.

I personally like this episode because I like boss-likes-employee stories and I actually didn't expect this web series to get a little dark. Lol. And either way, Soo jin and Hae jin get to share a moment alone and I liked Hae jin's straightforwardness!

 ***

"Till the End of the World." Ji Chang Wook
Just like what happened with Joon ki, Soo jin finds herself back on the same spot as before right after "kissing" Park Hae jin. Aww :"( Then we are given a new man in the name of Ji Chang wook! After realizing that Hae jin is gone now, Soo jin receives an envelop from his actual boss saying it is for her without any explanation. Naturally, Soo jin opens it and inside is a usb. Later, when she's walking home, Ji Chang wook suddenly grabs her into an alley retrieving the usb. After a while, Chang wook says his goodbye to Soo jin and is about to leave but a gun to his head stops him. He's been followed by some goons but good thing Soo jin is there because it turns out that she's a former agent and she's able to handle those goons.

I love Ji Chang wook and I think stories like this (like Healer and K2) really suits him. I love him with guns and fighting and doing dangerous jobs because it means I get to see him sweaty and bloody and worked up and I liked seeing him worked up! HAHAHA. And, and! Dramas like this always end up with the guy protecting the girl with his life!
 See what I mean? :P

 ***

"I'm your teacher. You're my student." Kai
Returning to her desk after the "kiss" with Chang wook, Soo jin feels frustrated for being with those men but not actually having even one of them as her boyfriend. (I'd feel bad if I was her too!) Distracting her from her thought, we then see Soo jin being called by her boss and introducing her to a Chinese couple who need an interpreter. And suddenly Soo jin surprises even herself by speaking and translating Chinese. After a while, she gets a call and we see Kai waiting for her to pick up on the other end of the line. While walking home, she wonders who she's going to meet this time. And ta-da, Kai appears in front of her. She then realizes that she's Kai's Chinese tutor. Soon they're enjoying a date; walking around, doing funny stuff and eating. Soo jin actually still feels frustrated because she wants to keep seeing Kai but of course life (or fate) always has its way of ruining things.

This episode is actually adorable and that rain scenes is REALLY sweet. I admit I don't like Kai (maybe because my sister hates EXO) but this character fits him well. Anyway, I'm getting frustrated for Soo jin as well but wait for it, Soo jin! Hihi :")

 ***

"Too Much To Handle." Ok Taec yeon

This time, Taec yeon is Soo jin's boyfriend and she can't help but be happy. Taec yeon is a chaebol who only wants to date Soo jin, buying her everything that can make her happy. But of course Taec yeon's mother doesn't approve of Soo jin and tries to separate the two but Teac yeon feelings for Soo jin are true and so he fights for her until the end. (Uhh! Sounds like your typical drama) He then holds a press conference announcing he's giving up his inheritance from his family so he can marry Soo jin. (Uhhhhhhhh! Soooo sweeeeeeet!)

It's actually a funny episode and I laughed a lot when I watched this. Soo jin just wanted to kiss Taec yeon so it would end because she can't handle the drama but Taec yeon isn't ready to give her up just yet. The part where Soo jin is forcing Taec yeon to kiss her is really funny! And when Taec yeon is doing the press conference and some reporter asks who's the woman next to her? I'd die of happiness when my rich boyfriend (if I have one and if he's rich) answers the way he did! Like, seriously!

And then the ending cracked me up, again, when Soo jin is trying to stop Taec yeon from kissing her because she knew that if he does then he's going to disappear.
***

"How to fall in love with a celebrity." Lee Jong suk
Feeling dejected once again, Soo jin is back on her desk. And knowing that only one last blank card is left doesn't help at all. But her disappointment disappears as soon as she sees the next man she's meant to meet. Lee Jong suk's smile is melting her heart and she can't believe she's shooting a commercial with him. But Soo jin is nervous and she's not an actress so the shoot is not going well. Luckily, Jong suk is there to give her some pointers (and butterflies in stomach!) Feeling that Soo jin is nervous, Jong suk asks the director to give them a short break so he can talk to Soo jin privately. The break gives Jong suk and Soo jin time to know each other better and it somehow helps because after it the shoot finally goes well. Except for that last part where they're not supposed to shoot a kissing scene but they did.

Waaaaaahh. I know I'm biased (because I REALLY REALLY LOVE Jong suk!) but this is my most favorite episode! I mean, just look at him! How can you not fall for a guy like Lee Jong suk? He's a great actor and he's really charming!
Because he's a pro!

***

Feeling disheartened, Soo jin tries to convince herself that it was a wonderful experience that she got to date those celebrities she doesn't stand a chance to date in real life. Then, out of nowhere, Ji woo just suddenly reappears telling her it's not over yet. This time Ji woo finally asks her to choose just one celebrity she likes and she will send her back to that moment when they were about to kiss. And that's when Soo jin went crazy for she doesn't know who to choose! Huhuhu :"( The dilemma of choosing among 6 handsome celebrities!
***

"Last gift." Lee Min ho
With the thought that she gets to choose one among the 6 celebrities she met earlier, Soo jin feels really happy and is working merrily that her boss commends her about it. And then, suddenly, slowly, heart flutteringly, Lee Min ho walks up to Soo jin's desk.

At first Soo jin thought that Min ho belongs to the celebrities she can choose from so she braves it and tries to make some connections with him asking where did we meet before? and such. But it turns out that Min ho is just an author of some travel book and he doesn't even know Soo jin. Still thinking Min ho is pretending, she embarrassingly tells Min ho that he just wants to ask her out on a date. She even boldly ask if he wants to have her number and tells him that he'll eventually come to like her. Quite taken a back, Min ho explains that she's gotten the wrong idea and tries to talk to the other employees at the Information Desk, inquiring about something. Finally realizing that she actually got the wrong idea, Soo jin begins to feel ashamed of what she did. After work, we see her walking out while finishing Min ho's travel book. And then there he is, calling after her.

They say hi and Soo jin apologizes for her behavior earlier, saying she mistook him for someone else. Min ho, of course, forgives her. Then Soo jin talks about Min ho's book, that she enjoyed it and loved a quote from it. "It's daily life to search for something that will love me. But searching for something I will love is a journey." Min ho admits that not many readers get the real meaning of what he really wanted to say but surprisingly she did. And I think in that moment they made a connection! *Squeal*

And then, and then! Soo jin asks why he'd called her and Min ho tells her that she dropped something then producing a familiar card from his pocket and handing it to her.

And of course Soo jin is happy for she doesn't need to choose anymore! :D

Lee Min ho equals Lee Jong suk so this episode is also my favorite! HAHAHA. (And because I can't really choose between the two of them, I'll just have them both!) I really love this web series and if only they made it into a full drama then it'd be wonderful! I also like the message it says that we don't need to push ourselves to people who don't love us and just find someone we love. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone who basically loves Kdrama! :)

Book: Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

3.75/5stars

“All children, except one, grow up.”

Peter Pan movie has always been my favorite and I love Peter and Wendy! I admit I found their story a bit heartbreaking but it's a wonderful story nonetheless!! :) And I know it rarely happens but I also found the movie better than the book.

“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”

I really enjoyed Peter's story as well as his and the Lost Boys' adventures in Neverland. Wendy showing up with Michael and John just made it more exciting and bizarre. For me, Peter Pan is really an interesting character for he never wants to ever grow up, always wanting to just have some fun and adventure. He's arrogant, he fights pirates, flies around, befriends mermaids and run things around Neverland. The Lost Boys look up to him and together they make their adventures. Tinkerbell is also one of my favorites! She's ill-tempered, jealous, and I liked it everytime she's pissed off at Peter and spits out, "You silly ass!" She's mischievous but very fond of Peter and helps him everytime.

I somehow feel sad for Peter for he has no strong ties to reality. He thinks that as long as he stays as a boy, then he can be free of any responsibility. He forgets important things and people and he's always carefree, not taking things seriously. With Wendy, he found a mother figure, one that could tell them thrilling stories, tuck them to bed and help them clean. Wendy is a wonderful character for she really cares for Peter and the Lost Boys. She might have enjoyed Neverland and wanted to stay, but she knew what's real and that they must come home to their parents.

You won't forget me, Peter, will you, before spring cleaning time comes?

I'll also mention Captain Hook because a tv show I'm watching, Once Upon A Time, has him as one of the main characters and there I love him so much! He's not as callous as novel-Hook but he's still a pirate and he's, well, gorgeous (played by Collin O'Donoghue). I can also understand Hook's hatred for Peter and as he said, it's Peter's cockiness that puts him off, because Peter, really, can be cocky most of the time.

Like I said earlier, Peter and Wendy's ending broke my heart. It's really sad and the fact that Peter did forget Wendy somehow, oh my god! :( How could you, Peter!

Peter Pan and Wendy will always be my favorites and no matter how sad their ending is, I'll never get tired watching the moving over and over again. Lol.

Oh, all right, he said at last, and gulped. Then he unbarred the window. Come on, Tink, he cried, with a frightful sneer at the laws of nature; we don't want any silly mothers; and he flew away.

There could not have been a lovelier sight; but there was none to see it except a little boy who was staring in at the window. He had had ecstasies innumerable that other children can never know; but he was looking through the window at the one joy from which he must be for ever barred.

Book: The Maze Runner (The Maze Runner #1) by James Dashner

★★★12/★★★★★

“Just follow me and run like your life depends on it. Because it does.”

Maybe I was too excited to read this series because of the movie but now that I finished the first and second books I'm not too excited to pick up the third book anymore. It was also recommended to me by a friend, saying she really enjoyed it and things but for me it was a little disappointing. But either way, it was engaging and intriguing and a bit frustrating.

The first book in the series tells the story of Thomas when he wakes up in a lift called the Box and next thing he knows he's surrounded by dozens of teenage boys. He remembers nothing, only his name, and to his luck no one tells him anything about the Glade, his new home. He tries hard to gain information, asking this and that, who and where but even his new-found  friend, Chuck, tells him only the basic things he needs to know. But spending a day in the Glade, seeing the runners, the walls closing, knowing about the Maze, witnessing what happens when a glader undergoes in the Changing, and hearing the Grievers, Thomas knew he has to find a way out of the Maze, one way or another. The next day, the Box brings them another newbie glader, but this time it's a girl, Teresa, with a note saying she'll be the last one ever. Whatever that means, they all know it couldn't be a good thing. And true enough, after Thomas and Teresa showed up things start to change and others start to blame them both.

“Holy crap, I’m scared.”
“Holy crap, you’re human. You should be scared.”

I liked the concept of the book with dozens of boys trapped inside a big Maze, the scary Grievers that roam around the Maze at night, the Changing when get sting by Grievers, the mystery behind the Maze and everything else and it was kind of intriguing why it's happening to Thomas and the other gladers. I was glued right from the beginning until the middle part but when I realized that the book wouldn't tell me anything about what's happening, I started to get a little frustrated. The characters are also likeable but underdeveloped and there were times when I can't tell them apart. I mean, Alby was the leader but Newt was running things around and I honestly still get confused about who is who even after reading two books. Who I liked a lot is Minho. He's the Keeper of the Runners in the Glade and probably the best  among the gladers. Chuck is also a cute character. I liked that he became friends with Thomas and that he's the youngest and therefore the all-around glader.

“I just...feel like I need to save everyone. To redeem myself.”

Anyway, Thomas as the main character is fine. He's driven, curious and well, the reason why things started to fall apart. He eventually wants to be a Runner like Minho, analyzing and solving the Maze so they can find a way out. He can be annoying and hardheaded at times but I understand his will on solving the Maze. Being stubborn and breaking one the rules also earns him a few haters and it doesn't help that people who went through the Changing seem to remember him from it. Thomas is also quite special from the others because of his ability to talk to Teresa in his mind. Or rather, he can hear Teresa talking to him in his mind. I didn't really get their telepathy thing because for me it wasn't necessary but well, it was there. Teresa is a so-so character. For the first part after she showed up in the Glade she is asleep and when she wakes she and Thomas start to feel connected with each other.

“It was you and me, Tom. We did this to them. To us.”

The writing didn't impress me that much. The prose is disappointing and I was actually hoping it would eventually improve but it didn't. It felt flat that even though I wanted to feel something, anything, about what's happening, I can't because the writing somewhat lacked emotion and it was very tell-y, just saying this and that and nothing else. The slang words are also kind of annoying sometimes. Okay, maybe a lot of times but you get used to it at some point. What infuriated me so much was the lack of information! Seriously! Because there are so many questions asked but the book only answered one or two and it didn't help that the characters also don't really know anything since their memories are erased when they were thrown inside the Maze. Ugh! But the turn of events are satisfying and I was resolved on just finishing the series for the hell of it. Like I said, it was fine but I really think it could be better if the writing is improved and the characters are well-developed.

So for me, The Maze Runner is an intriguing book with some infuriating aspects. A bit long (for me) but enjoyable enough. I also got to finish to second book in the series (will write a separate review soon) and thinking of reading the third book some time next week.

Girls Talk Boys by 5 Seconds of Summer ♫♪

When the girls, when the girls talk
When the girls talk boys
Oh when the girls, when the girls talk
When the girls talk boys

Hey!

When you're talking to your girls, do you talk about me?
Do you say that I'm a sweetheart? Do you say that I'm a freak?
Do you tell them white lies? Do you tell them the truth?
Do you tell them that you love me, the way that I've been loving you?

Cause every night you and I find ourselves
Kissing and touching like no one else
Falling and falling until I fell,
For you

Cause I've been talking to my friends
The way you take away my breath
It's something bigger than myself,
It's something I don't understand, no, no
I know we're young and people change,
And we may never feel the same,
So baby tell me what you say

When the girls, when the girls talk
When the girls talk boys
(I can hear 'em talking)
Oh when the girls (when the girls), when the girls talk
When the girls talk boys

Hey!

When you're talking to your girls, do you talk about me?
Do you tell them I'm your lover? That I'm all that you need?
Do you tell them white lies? Do you tell them the truth?
Do you tell them that you love me, the way that I've been loving you?

Cause every night you and I find ourselves
Kissing and touching like no one else
Falling and falling until I fell,
For you

Cause I've been talking to my friends,
The way you take away my breath
It's something bigger than myself,
It's something I don't understand, no, no
I know we're young and people change,
And we may never feel the same,
So baby tell me what you say

When the girls, when the girls talk
When the girls talk boys
(I can hear 'em talking)
Oh when the girls, when the girls talk
When the girls talk boys

When the girls talk boys
Talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk
When the girls talk boys (when the girls)

TV Series: Sense8 (2015)

★★★★/★★★★★

Sense8 revolves around eight different people from around the globe who are mentally and emotionally connected with each other. They are called 'sensates' who are able to communicate, sense and use each other's knowledge, language and skills.

Characters:

[WILL GORSKI]

Will is a Chicago cop, a man who often shows 'saviour behaviour' which he thinks he's responsible for other's well-being. He is haunted by Sarah Patrell, a girl whose murder his father was assigned to and couldn't solve when he was a child. As a sensate, he shares connection with the other 7 sensates.

I instantly liked Will's character because come on, he's a cop! And he always helps the other sensates especially when they need it the most. He's the first one to connect with Jonas and because of him they're able to save the other sensates from danger.

[RILEY BLUE]
Riley is an Icelandic dj who moved to London because she thought she was hexed and staying in Iceland will cause misfortune to those around her. She blamed herself for the death of her mother, as well as her husband and daughter.

Her character contributes a lot to the plot of the series and I liked her too. She's scared but she's trying to be strong and her bravery will later on save all the other sensates. There's also a romantic connection between her and Will.

[WOLFGANG BOGDANOW]
Wolfgang is a German thief and safecracker. He has unsolved issues with his late father and his relatives which give him troubles. He's a bad ass and together with his bestfriend, Felix, they rob his cousin which later on leads to a bloodbath.

It's not hard to like Wolfie because he's, well, likeable. Growing up with an abusive father is never been easy so somehow I understand his actions even though it made him a monster.

Some of his scenes also kinda shocked me because he's German. (If you know what I mean!)

[KALA DANDEKAR]
Kala is a pharmacist, working in a successful pharmaceutical company in Mumbai.  She's a devout Hindu, talking to Ganesha when she's lost or troubled. She's also engaged to Rajan Rasal, the CEO of the company she's working at, though she doesn't love him.

Throughout the series, Kala's story revolves around her marriage to Rajan. She doesn't know what to do because her family really likes Rajan and they think that she is marrying him for love. Enters Wolfgang who confuses her much more. Their scenes are all funny and I love them both.

[CAPHEUS "Van Damme"]

Capheus is a matatu driver living in Nairobi, Kenya with his mother who is fighting AIDS. He's desperately trying to earn money so he can buy and  give quality medicine to his mother. Despite being poor and less fortunate than the other sensate, Capheus stays optimistic. He always faces his problems with a positive attitude and lucky enough, he always overcomes whatever comes his way.

I feel bad for Capheus because among his cluster he's the unfortunate one. But hey, he's a good man and he has the other sensate to help him.

[SUN BAK]

Sun is a South Korean business executive working in her father's company. She's also a kickboxer participating in an underground kickboxing where she feels more like herself. She's currently in prison for taking blame for what her brother did of embezzling money from their company.

Sun is a badass. She puts her anger on her fists and use them until she feels better. It has also helped the other sensate many times especially Capheus when he's in a bad situation. I like her because she's tough and because she's a girl who knows how to fight.

[LITO RODRIGUEZ]

Lito is a closeted gay Mexican actor living with his boyfriend, Hernando. No one knows he's gay but when Daniella, an actress who seems to fancy him, discovers this secret, he thought it would be the end of his career. But then it turns out that Daniela supports his relationship with Hernando and agrees to be his 'beard'.

Lito's character is hard to dislike because he tries his best to be a good straight actor portraying bad ass roles while hiding his true self which I know is hard.

[NOMI MARKS]

Nomi is a political blogger and hacktivist based in San Francisco. She's a proud trans woman and lesbian though her family doesn't support her. She's currently living with her girlfriend, Amanita, and together they are trying to find who wants to hurt Nomi and the other sensate.

Nomi has a painful past and it made her into becoming the woman she is today. Sharing this experience to Lito gives Lito the courage to finally be open and accept who he really is, not hiding anymore.

Season 1 Trailer

I really loved the series and I can't wait for season 2!
The first season ended with Riley saving Will, and automatically the other sensates, and I really want to know what will happen next. I hope all the 8 of them will finally see each other in person and together they solve this mystery happening to them.

[Screencaps]
*Riley and Will's first meeting

*When Kala was scared for Wolgang because he decided to face his Uncle.

Oh, hello there, Wolfgang.

*Will warning Wolfgang to be careful

*This was when Will helped Kala when some people at the temple tried to make her leave. Kala said she wouldn't let them scare her and she would be back at the temple and Will said "So will I" in case she needed help. It was so sweet of him.

 *Will and Riley meeting again

*Right from their first meeting I knew there was some connection between Riley and Will and I'm not just talking about their connection as sensates but something more.

*Will didn't want to leave Riley when she was in the hospital because he knew she was in danger. And I think he really wanted to be with her.

I just love this photo of Will. Hihi :")

 I love them both! :)

*Capheus-Sun tandem was also one of my favorites. I liked that Sun was always always there when Capheus needed saving which was always. Poor Capheus he didn't know how to fight.

*These two had feelings for each other too but too bad Kala was getting married.

*Nomi needed help so Sun and Will came. Later on, Capheus also showed up because Nomi didn't know how to drive.

*Riley and Nomi didn't interact a lot but when they did, they always talked about their problems and they encouraged each other.

*This was when Will was on his way to save Riley when Whispers captured her. He was so determined he didn't even have a plan. Tsk.

*I laughed so hard on this episode. Lito was trying to help Will get inside the facility where Riley was but Will seemed not to remember him so Lito reminded him and Will's reaction was epic. Lol.

*Will finally met Riley but she was unconscious. I loved this scene especially when Will touched Riley and everything flashed back from the first time they met.

And finally, Will and Riley escaped with the help of other sensates. But Whispers was able to get inside Will's head so now it was up to Riley to save them both but she was having a hard time confronting her traumatic past of losing her baby.
Will: I know how much it hurts. I know you want to lay down here and never get up again. I know it, 'cause I feel it. I can feel it. And that means that somehow, somewhere... you can feel what I'm feeling, too... I love you. That's why you can't give up.

 *I know, I know, I'm a sucker for romance.

*The last scene where everyone was seen together.

Gah, I can't wait for Season 2! :)
