Book: Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo

I knew the moment I finished Six of Crows I had to read this book right away! I loved the first book but Crooked Kingdom took my love for it to a whole new level. I mean, oh my god Kaz and his crew! It's been a crazy ride this book and every twist and turn will make you love it more. Like seriously!

So we're back with Kaz and his crew after they broke in and out of the Ice Court. It was a suicide mission, an impossible heist, but thank all the Saints they got what they came for (more or less) in the form of Kuwei Yul-bo. They were to get their reward that could make them rich beyond their wildest dreams when Van Eck crossed them. Uh-oh, not a good idea. But Kaz is smart and he'd somehow expected that to happen so he had a plan. The only problem was he made a teeny tiny mistake that caused them to lose Inej. Now they're plotting to get Inej back and make Van Eck regret crossing them. And when the news about jurda parem spreads and reaches the leaders around the world, Kaz needs all the help (and tricks) he can get to protect Kuwei and rescue Inej at the same time. To make things a lot messier, Van Eck teamed up with Pekka Rollins and if Kaz gets lucky, he can get Inej back, can protect Kuwei, make Van Eck pay and finally get his revenge to Pekka Rollins all at the same time.

My gahd! This book is a masterpiece! If the first book managed to wow me, this book, this book!!! has blown me away. The character development is superb and every character deserves a round of applause! *clap clap clap* We have a wonderful and awesome world building and of course there's Bargudo's brilliant writing style.

“Have any of you wondered what I did with all the cash Pekka Rollins gave us?” 
“Guns?” asked Jesper.“Ships?” queried Inej.“Bombs?” suggested Wylan. “Political bribes?” offered Nina. They all looked at Matthias. “This is where you tell us how awful we are,” she whispered.

Kaz, Inej, Nina, Matthias, Jesper and Wylan. These six people has grown so much in this book, each carrying a role that is crucial to the group. Their every action affects the group and I think that's why I love them so much because they work perfectly together and yes, they might've done some mistakes but they regret and learn from it because they knew that their lives depend on every action they do. Kaz is as cunning as ever, still giving the orders and running things around. When Ketterdam turns its back on him, he makes sure to make every person responsible pay and to get his home back. Inej is braver and more determined after what Van Eck did. She's still that strong-willed girl who believes in her friends. Nina and Matthias are lovely in this book! I love those witty banters Nina always throws Matthias and I have to admit that Matthias has somehow started to sound like one of them everytime they plot something. Jesper still has his sense of humor and I don't think I can love him any more than I already do. Wylan becomes more confident now (latter part) and he's still adorable. It made me laugh every time Jesper teases him and I love them both, you guys!! I think they're cute together. Six people, several cons, hundreds enemies, this book is crazy exciting and I dare you not to get hooked after everything!

Cons upon cons, trick after trick, this book has a lot of twist and turns that will surely surprise you. There were times when I thought I knew how things will turn out but of course, Leigh Bardugo will prove me wrong. She made Kaz so cunning it was impossible to predict what he's thinking. And I'm in love with him because of that.

“Nina glanced from Inej to Kaz and saw they both wore the same expression. Nina knew that look. It came after the shipwreck, when the tide moved against you and the sky had gone dark. It was the first sight of land, the hope of shelter and even salvation that might await you on a distant shore.”

Dark, violent, entertaining and brilliant, Crooked Kingdom just proves to be one of the best sequel ever! It's a bit lengthy but I didn't mind because I enjoyed every page of it. I rooted for them every step of the way from rescuing Inej to auctioning Kuwei. Honestly, I want more of Kaz and his crew but well, can't do anything about it. This book is truly a page turner, something you won't be able to put down because you're eager to know what happens next. It'll make you laugh, excited, frustrated, will give you the feels and yes, it'll make you cry because of Matthias, oh Matthias! My heart broke for Nina and after everything they'd been through, I can't believe Matthias didn't make it to the end. *sobs*

“Go home to Ravka, Nina. Be free, be as you were meant to be. Be a warrior, as you always have been. Just save some mercy for my people. There has to be a Fjerda worth saving. Promise me.”

Now let's talk about Kaz and Inej. Oh my god, those two! I'm not sure whether I should be satisfied with their ending or not because I want mooooore! I know the two of them touching (holding hands) is already too much for the both of them but come on! A hug, maybe? But either way, I'm really really glad for Inej and Kaz, well, may the Saints guide him as he build his empire now that he got his money! And revenge.

Overall, this book is one of the best I've ever read and I can't recommend this book enough! So do yourself a favor and pick up Six of Crows then READ this book! :D

Book: Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

“A thousand moments that I had just taken for granted- mostly because I had assumed that there would be a thousand more.”

This was my second book of Morgan Matson and after reading The Unexpected Everything, I became a fan of her and decided to read all her other books. Second Chance Summer is a story about family, friendship, life's mishaps and second chances at things. 

Taylor Edwards has a habit of running away especially when things get hard. It's in her nature to just leave when she realizes things are not going her way. But when they receive the news that their father has cancer and he wishes for them to spend their summer at the family's lake house, Taylor has no choice but to agree and face that first thing she ran away from five years ago. 

Taylor wasn't the best character for me but she wasn't the worst either. She was your typical teenager who had boy-school-family problems, who sometimes got scared and who sometimes did things she regretted. At first I didn't feel any special connection with her (I actually didn't like her) but I slowly grew on her and I liked how her character has developed throughout the book. And given her circumstances, she'd been a strong girl and at some point she learned to brave things she thought she couldn't handle and she realized that running away can't really solve a problem. If anything, running away could make things worse. 

The thing I loved most about this book is the way how it focused mainly on the family aspect. It was heartwarming to see how Taylor and her family began to get closer with each other as they spent more time together. Warren and Gelsey were more like my kind of characters and it was nice to see them enjoying the summer despite thinking they should be spending it somewhere else. There were some scenes that brought tears to my eyes and it was just so heartbreaking everytime there was Taylor-Dad scene. I'm close with my family so it was really good seeing Taylor's family developing their relationship with each other. And at some point I knew it would have a sad and heartbreaking and inevitable ending so I braced myself right before it happened.

“Daddy," I whispered, feeling my own breath hitch in my throat. "I love you."
Just when I was sure he was asleep, the one corner of his mouth lifted in a smile. "I knew that," he murmured. "Always knew that.”

 Taylor and Lucy's friendship was also another thing I loved in the book. Five years of lost friendship but they still found a way to rekindle. It was hard, of course, but at some point they realized that their friendship was worth reviving after all. And Henry, oh my god Henry! I know I always fall for every guy in the book I read and Henry was no exception. Twelve year old Henry was hurt by twelve year old Taylor by disappearing one summer five years ago. It was supposed to be a special summer for them with developing feelings and first kisses but when things didn't turn out the way Taylor expected them to, she decided to just run away. Now Taylor was back and Henry was surprised to see her again. But as summer went on and explanations were laid out and second chances were given, Taylor and Henry found themselves catching up on five years worth of things they missed on each other. 

“I thought you'd never speak tome again.”

“I tried,” he reminded me, and I smiled at that. “But seriously,” he said, looking right at me, his tone a little more measured, “you're a hard habit to break.”

I've grown to love Matson's writing even after only reading two of her books. Her characters were simple and realistic and though I didn't like Taylor at the beginning, Matson did a good job at her character-development. And it was a perfect book for summer with the lake house, the beach, the family games/movie nights and all the summer activities. And oh, the fireworks! Overall it was a good book that will make you smile, cry and will make you cherish your family more. A book not about having the best or worst summer, but about learning a thing or two about life. A book about family, friendship, life's mishaps and second chances.

KDrama: Bubblegum 2015

Bubblegum centers around the lives of Park Ri hwan an oriental medical doctor who comes from a wealthy family and Kim Haeng ah who is a radio producer. Haeng ah's parents both died when she was young so she was taken care by Sun young, Ri hwan's mother, because Sun young was close with Haeng ah's father. 

Haeng as and Ri hwan grew up together so they are close and as time passes by they begin to have feelings for each other. Haeng ah tries to deny it because she knows how Sun young would feel but eventually Ri hwan confesses that he feels the same way. Together, with the help of the people around them, they find a way to fight for their love. But it wouldn't be that easy because later they find out that Sun young has Alzheimer's which makes everything harder. Yi seul, a chaebol, turns out to have feelings for Ri hwan too after Ri hwan showed her kindness. She wants to have him but Ri hwan politely turns her down. Haeng ah's ex-boyfriend, Suk joon, is also involved and now he wants her back, telling her that he would try his best to be what Haeng ah deserves.

It's a really good story about family, friendship and healing. I liked that it focuses on the issue of Haeng ah and Ri hwan's family and friends. It shows us that as long as we know what's good for us and we do the right thing, then everything will be fine. It also tells us to treasure our family and friends because no matter what happens, they are the ones who will always ALWAYS be there for us.

 I know it's hard for Haeng ah to keep her feelings towards Ri hwan because she doesn't want to disappoint Ri hwan's mother who doesn't want them to have any romantic relationship. She likes him but she can't accept his feelings because she doesn't want to hurt Sun young.

 Ri hwan really cares for Haeng ah and though he knows the consequences of his actions, he still wants to protect Haeng ah.

Ri hwan: If you don't like me, you can tell me that. We can go back to the way things used to be. But if you're just scared... let's be together.

Haeng ah: When were you the happiest?

Ri hwan: For me, it's right now. 

Haeng ah: Me too. 

Book: The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1) by Rick Riordan

Well, I’m pretty sure my life would’ve been different if I’d just read this when I was 12!

Percy Jackson is a bad-ass demigod, son of Poseidon. Of course, he doesn’t know this at first until monsters start terrorizing him. He then learns about his true identity when he arrives at Camp Half-Blood where his quests begin.

I really enjoyed the first book and I can’t believe I’m only reading the series now that I’m 23! Ugh! And I can’t believe I loved the movie.

Essay: Who are my friends?

This is an essay for my sister's English class.

Title: Who are your friends?

“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.”

           Friends. They are the people you share everything with. Your stories, your problems, your food, you even share the dislike you feel towards other people. You treat them nicely but sometimes you tease them too. Friends are the people you feel comfortable with because they know everything about you. 

            Who are my friends? My friends are the people I eat with during lunch. My friends are the people I chat with during class. My friends are these crazy people who are listening to me now (If they are even listening). My friends are the reason I am enjoying high school now. Why? Because they make everyday easier by just being by my side. That’s what friends do, right? They make everything easier. They make you laugh with their dumb jokes. They make you giggle with their silly expressions. They push you towards your crush but instead of getting mad, you thank them anyway. Because that’s just what friends do. 

           But friends don’t only stay during the good times. They also share your sadness, pain and the BV (bad vibes). They are beside you when you feel down, lost or even when you’re just not in the mood. Or when you’re in your red days. They ask why your face is crumpled when you’re upset about something. They lend you a hand whenever you need one. They give you hope when everything else feels wrong. Friends are what keep you going when you feel like stopping. Friends are what motivate you when everything else sucks and most importantly, they don’t let you do crazy things… alone.

            So who are your friends? Are they the one sitting beside you? Because if they are, then you’re probably denying it now for how crazy they must be. But crazy or not, you still love them anyway.

Book: What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler

"Not being able to say no isn't the same as saying yes."

Here's how the story goes: There was a party, drunk highschool students, Twitter and you know what happens when there's a party with a bunch of drunk highschool students and their Twitter.

It's a really good story that tells us that one brave voice can change the course of everyone's life, that one brave girl can change another girl's life.

Four Reasons Why I Love Kate Weston.

1. She's not like everyone else and by everyone else I mean EVERYONE WHO WITNESSED what happened.

I love that she's different from all those people who think that just because a girl wears short skirts and tank top it means she wants to be raped! That's bullshit and no girl should be treated that way. I know we're responsible for what we wear but how we dress doesn't call for anything -- harm or trouble or any bad shit. We should blame how people think of what we wear.

2. She reaches out to Stacey even though Stacey pushes her away.

I can't blame Stacey for being angry and hurt and broken but it was so kind of Kate to reach out to her to know what really happened. They were friends before and sure enough Kate still cares for her. And you know what's funny about friendship? Even though you're not friends anymore, there's still a part of you that will always care. Because once upon a time, you and that person shared memories.

3. She knows that no matter how much you love a person, it's not enough to accept the fact that he can lie straight to your face about an important thing.

It breaks my heart to know that Ben lied to Kate. He was so close to being perfect --smart, athletic, good looking, kind-- but it was so dumb of him to lie about what really happened. I know he was worried about being cut off his team and his college scholarship but still, he should've at least tried to speak up. Or be man enough for Kate to tell her the truth. And the fact that he begged Kate not to go to the police, total asshole and turn off! 

And of course it was also hard for Kate because she loved Ben but it wasn't enough. The truth must be told even if it caused her her relationship with that one person she thought she really knew. Ugh!

4. She's strong enough to speak up about what she saw.

Do I need to explain more? Nah, just read the book.

Book: Mosquitoland by David Arnold

"Life, it seems, delivers the best punch lines only after we’ve forgotten we were part of a joke."

I honestly thought of putting this down after few chapters but somewhere along after those chapters, I started loving it. Mim's writing to Iz, her putting on war paint, her meeting new/strange/different kinds of people and everything else, I started to get them. It's like after contemplating, over the first few chapters, whether I can relate to her or not, I finally did. Between the writing and adventure and meeting new people, something inside me just connected to her. And I know she's a little weird and odd and a teenager with one blind eye because of the Great Blinding Eclipse and her dad believes that there's something wrong inside her brain because she talks to herself but come on, everyone talks to himself. Don't you? And don't lie!

And because A Thing’s Not a Thing until You Say It Out Loud. So I say it, She is Mary Iris Malone and and I get her.

Mary Iris Malone, or simply Mim, is determined to get to Cleveland, to her mother, before Labor Day weekend after overhearing a conversation that her mother is sick. Mim, now convinced that her dad and stepmother, Kathy, are keeping her away from her mom for whatever reason, decides to set off alone to Cleveland. She's so committed on getting to her mom that she hops aboard Greyhound bus with only Reasons, a bag pack full of, at least, three-day worth of necessities, her mom's lipstick and a coffee can with Kathy's money and letters. And on this bus is where Mim's journey begins.

Mim meets new and different people along the way. A sweet lady like our Dear Old Arlene with her wooden box, a perv like Poncho Man, a someone like Carl-the-bus-driver who is more than what we thought they could be, a handsome new face with a camera, a homeless-harmless new bestfriend like Walt with his rubik's cube, another someone with bad intentions like Caleb, a few good ones like Ahab and his boyfriend and some more other. And then there's Beck-the-handsome-new-face-with-a-camera, again. Beck-the-guy-who-is-to-old-for-Mim-for-now-Van Buren. And I honestly love all the people Mim had met on this journey to her mom because they all each taught her something, if not everything. 

It's a really good story of discovering new things/people, realizing that there is a bigger world around you with different kinds of people that might or might not teach you a thing or two. It's a story of opening up to the world you thought would never understand you and it's a punch on the face to realize that there are actually people who care and understand and get what you say and don't say and they even understand what you feel even though you don't show it. 

"Maybe sometimes we just need someone to tell us that we're okay. Or we will be, at least. And I think of all the times I thought I wasn't okay, and all the times maybe I could've been, if only I'd had a Beck Van Buren around to tell me otherwise."

Becoming friends with Walt and Beck is fate, I guess. Because what Mim really needs are people to show her that she can trust them. That they will be there for her and not to leave without a liquid goodbye. I also love Beck because his character is... I'm-not-sure-what but I like him.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE VALUE OF FRIENDS.

At the end of her journey, when Mim reaches Cleveland (947 Miles from Mosquitoland) when she finally meets her mom and when everything finally sinks into her, she realizes that she should've at least considered all the sides of the story. Like her dad's and Kathy's sides. That she should've understood where his dad was coming from with all those medicine and why Beck wanted to see her foster sister again. They care, that's why. And she should've thought that Walt needs to find his home too. Just like she did. 

Overall it was a really good book. Four-shiny-stars! 'm not sure why I'm not giving it 5 but I guess that's just it. I loved it and Mary Iris Malone is going to be okay.

Now let's get to my favorite part.

Of course it was sad to find out that Beck and Walt had to leave (that was the part where I cried) but I understand why they had to. And somehow thinking that Beck cares enough for Walt to help him find his mom is enough for me to officially fall for him. And hey, hey, they told Mim to meet them at the next baseball game, right? At their rendezvouski. So it's another chance and maybe by then, Beck is not that old for Mim anymore.

Beck holds me like that on the floor well into the night. We don’t talk. We don’t need to. Sleep is close, and I’m okay with that. Because among the not-knowing of sleep, I’ll know Beck. At some point, he carries me to bed and lies down next to me. It isn’t weird, though maybe it should be; it isn’t wrong, though it definitely could be. I curl up next to him, put my head on his shoulder. He wraps an arm around me, and I swear we were once a single unit, a supercontinent divided millions of years ago—like my fifth-grade science project—now reunited into some kaleidoscopic New Pangaea.

“I’m Madagascar,” I say, sleepily.

“You’re what?”

“I’m Madagascar. And you’re Africa.”

He squeezes my shoulder, and—I think he gets it. I bet he does.

And that’s when I know what this is. Or rather, what it’s not. I remember our conversation from last night, out under the stars, in the back of Uncle Phil, and I know. “This isn’t a crush, you know.” I say it with my head in his arm—I want him to physically feel my words.

“I know,” he says.

“It isn’t.”

“I know.”

Tell him, Mary.

It’s deep and real and fucking old-school. It’s a fortress of passion, a crash—a fatal collision of neurons and electrons and fibers, my circus of oddities coming together as one, imploding in a fiery blaze. It’s . . . I-don’t-know-what . . . my collection of shiny.

Movie: Home 2015

I always always love animated films and this one is amazing. I mean, it teaches us a lot of things from caring about others/family/friends to not drinking the lemonade from the toilet. Tsk.

The story is about the Boov running away from the planet-destroying Gorg and finding Earth where they decided to inhabit. Led by their Captain Smek (Steve Martin), they relocate humans, whom their captain pertains to as simple and backwards, to other parts of the planet so they can inhabit their homes. Excited and happy about their new home, one of the Boov named Oh (Jim Parsons) wants to throw a housewarming party with his friends. Sadly, he doesn't really have friends and his neighbors really don't like him.

Then he accidentally meets Tip (Rihanna) in a convenience store while running away from the Boov cops after sending an invite to every alien on the galaxy, including the Gorg. The invite is supposedly just for Kyle, whom Oh thought is his friend, but instead of just pressing "send" he accidentally presses "send all". It causes panic to the Boov, thinking the Gorg would find their new home that's why Captain Smek orders for Oh to be captured because it's his fault. Oh runs away and decides to go to Antarctica where there is no Boov living. 

Tip, on the other hand, lost her mom (Jenifer Lopez) while the Boov are relocating the humans. She's able to avoid that thing that sucked her mother away from her thanks to her cat named Pig. She's hiding in their home when one of the Boov comes in making her leave. She drives her car and stops in a convenience store where she meets Oh. It's when their adventure begins.

I really love the story because it's about family, friendship and doing the right thing. I like that Tip waited and never stopped looking for her mom even though she never had an idea where she might be until Oh. It's also nice that even though she and Oh started off on the wrong foot, they still ended up being good friends. They found a friend in each other that I cried when I thought Oh was crushed when the Gorg's mothership didn't stop on time. And giving back what Captain Smek took from the Gorg is the bravest thing Oh has ever done. It's what made him a more capable leader than Captain Smek. 

The movie is  a 5/5 for me. You should watch it and see for yourself why.

I also fell in love with the songs because they're all good.

Movie: Barely Lethal 2015

Watched this film with my friends and we enjoyed it. :)

The story is about Agent 83 (Hailee Steinfeld) who grew up at Prescott Academy where they train orphans to become government agents. Despite being the best on the field, Agent 83 has always been curious about a lot of things especially in the outside world. She always dreamed of having a normal life. But her mentor, Hardman (Samuel L. Jackson) also discourages them from being attached on anything or anyone because "No Attachment" is their number one rule. So secretly, she reads teen magazines and watches teen movies like Mean Girls and Bring It On. 

The story continues when Agent 83 finds an opportunity to walk away from the life she's always known after accomplishing a mission but falling into a river because wanted arms dealer Victori Knox (Jessica Alba) tries to kill her. She thinks about it twice but she really wants to have a normal life.

It's really nice and funny and I love how Megan (Agent 83) tries to cope up with her new life, school and friends and is trying her best to be just normal like others. She faces new problems and hardships but she's willing to go through it just to have the life she's always wanted.

My first School series was School 2013 which I really loved. My sister and I watched it together and it was when we fell in love with Lee Jong suk and Kim Woo bin. :") We loved the story because we can relate to it since it tells the story of students while they're in school and everything that's happening to them. It was such a great drama that we were excited when it was announced that it will be back with Who Are You? School 2015!

Go Eun-byul and Lee Eun-bi are identical twins separated at birth. Eun-bi lives at House of Love, an orphanage in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, where the younger residents look up to her as a mother figure. However, she hides the fact that she is bullied at school by a gang of mean girls led by Kang So-young, while teachers turn a blind eye.
 On the other hand, Go Eun-byul is the most popular girl at Sekang High School, the most prestigious private high school in Seoul's Gangnam District. Eun-byul's best friends are Cha Song-joo and Lee Shi-jin, and she shares a mutual attraction with Han Yi An, the school's star swimmer. They have been friends since they were 8.
Eun-bi and Eun-byul look exactly alike, but only Eun-byul is aware of the other's existence. Unlike the cheerful Eun-bi, Eun-byul is prickly and secretive. It's also nice that Kim So hyun and Sung jae are the lead characters because I love them both. So hyun looks like Son Ye jin who I also love. :")

There's always that one guy in every drama that will make you fall in love because of their "pasaway" character. And for this drama, it's Gong Tae kwang.  Hihi :")

Tae kwang: Well, should I tell you this? You probably don't know since you lost your memory. I didn't accept your feelings for me, but you used to follow me around big time. Texting and calling me. You were such a nuisance.
 Eun bi: I did?
Tae kwang: Yes, you did. 

And then there's the good guy...

 Eun bi: You know what you said yesterday? I was grateful at first, but I thought about it and I got upset. Yi ahn: About what?
Eun bi: I'm what? I have no manners, I'm rude and you sometimes want to smack me? Why are you friends with someone like that?
Yi ahn: Sometimes I wonder that too. 

 
*I like that Yi ahn and Eun byul grew up together that they can joke around about anything and I also like that even though he thinks that Eun bi is Eun byul who just lost her memories, he still treats her the same saying she's rude and have no manners. Lol.

 Tae kwang: What's this?
Yi ahn: Didn't you come to return the bag? You did, so that's that.
Tae kwang: (looks annoyed) No you're wrong. I came here to see Go Eun byul.
Yi ahn: (becomes serious) (taps Tae kwang on the shoulder) See her tomorrow.
 

*It's when Tae kwang starts to show interest in the new Eun byul that Yi ahn starts to get a little protective too.

 Isn't it sweet when someone asks you to skip class with him? HAHAHA xD

 I always feel sorry for the characters like of Tae kwang because no matter how hard he tries, he always knows that he can't have Eun bi. :(

 Eun bi: Hey, Han Yi ahn!

Yi ahn: (stops jogging) What?

Eun bi: My... bike chain came off.

Yi ahn: So what?

Eun bi: I said, my bike chain came off!

Yi ahn: And?

Eun bi: I... can't go to you. I can't go to you... So, can't you come to me?

 Yi ahn: (jogs back to her)

1.. 2.. Smile! :D

Eun bi: Gong tae kwang?What brings you here at this hour?

Tae kwang: I was waiting for you all this time. What else would bring me here?

Now this is sad. :"(

Then there's the night when you tell her what you really feel...

*But... stilll... I like you.

And then the next day, his hair is already black. :(

It's nice that somehow Tae kwang and Eun bi are getting closer but still it hurts for Tae kwang because he knows that friends is all they can be. But who knows, right? I still have two more episodes to finish and I'm yet to find out. 

I'm not sure where their relationship will go but I really wish they end up together. Never mind Yi ahn since he already has Eun byul. Tsk.

 Then there's the surprise kiss. :)

I still have two more episodes to finish and I'm excited to see how all of this will end.  I just hope it will be as good as I expected! :)

UPDATE! 

As expected, Eun bi chooses Yi an. 

And now the heartbreaking part when Tae kwang has to let Eun bi go.

  It hurts when you love someone but you have to let her go.
