from me to you #37

Hiiiiiii! Oh I’ve missed blogging! So, I’m back from a week of vacation and it was great and fun and amazing! I mean, I really needed that off from work and everything else and now I feel… well, like myself again. 😁 Anyhow, I missed this! I missed writing, I missed reading blogs, I missed talking to you all lovely people but I especially missed reading! You see, when I filed that vacation leave I also told myself I would take a break from reading, too, because lately I was kinda not in the mood to read and yes, we call it a slump. I have books I’ve been meaning to finish for a while now that until now are still sitting on my night stand. But, but! now I’m back and I’m all fired up to read everything I left behind.

My friends and I travelled north and it was three days of fun and adventure. We visited museums, windmills, beaches, falls and even tried sand boarding! It was crazy fun though my expecience was not that good. My boyfriend and I shared a board and unfortunately it went a little off track causing us to crash. But still, we were okay and the experience were great for our friends. It was also Valentine’s Day on our second day and I was happy to spend it not only with my boyfriend but also with my lovely friends!

Well, I’ll tell you more about my vacation in a separate post because for now I just want you to know now I’m so totally back with blogging! I know I’ve missed out on so much but hopefully I catch up. Okay then, until my next post. Bye for now. Happy reading!

Book: Miracle on 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan

★★★★/★★★★★

“I'm a glass half-full sort of person. That's not a crime. You see the bad in people, but I see the good. And I do believe there is good in most people.”

Miracle on 5th Avenue was my first Sarah Morgan book and it didn't disappoint. I actually planned on reading this one last Christmas but since I was kinda busy with other things, I moved reading it until now. I'm also thinking of picking up the first two books in the series since I like Morgan's writing a lot. Maybe some time soon when I find time.

The story centers around Eva who runs an event and concierge business, Urban Genie, with her two best friends, Frank and Paige. Their business covers organizing events to walking dogs to decorating an apartment for Christmas. That's what happens when one of their clients, Mitzy, asks Eva to decorate her grandson's apartment who is away in Vermont, or so they thought. Eva, ever professional and so fond of Mitzy, wholeheartedly agrees thinking that no one is occupying the apartment and she can do her job undisturbed. Little did she know that there's a surprise waiting not only for Mitzy's grandson, Lucas Blade, but also for her.

I'm starting to understand why you don't date much. You're a hopeless romantic and you're waiting for Prince Charming? The faint hint of humor needled her, even though she was used to being teased for her rose-tinted view on life.
No, but even you have to agree Prince Charming is a more appealing character than Jack the Ripper.

I'm a big fan of Christmas romance that's why I enjoyed this book a lot. I adore Eva so much she makes me want to fall in love! With Lucas Blade! Anyway, I think the characters are what I love most in this book. Eva is a hopeless romantic who always looks at the bright side of life. She's kind and sweet and she's the type of friend who never whines. After the death of her grandmother, she tries to live up everything she'd taught her, even being the sunshine in everyone's life even though sometimes she feels like crying. Lucas, on the other hand, believes that you can only love once. We all know he's wrong but he's so stubborn and his walls are all up. He's the exact opposite of Eva, always brooding and writes mystery/horror novel.

Now that they are in a situation they both didn't want but don't have a choice, they decided to just mind their own business. Eva will decorate Lucas's apartment while Lucas writes his book. But having writer's block, the last ting Lucas needs is a singing Eva in his kitchen whose cooking always distracts him! But soon he realizes that Eva is actually the solution to his writer's block.

I like Eva a lot and her personality is very admirable. She's so positive in everything, always seeing the good side of things. I also like her best friends Frankie and Paige. Throughout the book we get to read a little about them and from it I can already tell that I'm going to love them as much as I loved Eva! Mitzy also warmed my heart. She's so sweet and cares so much for both Lucas and Eva.

Lucas was right. Love wasn't a fairy tale. It was messy and painful.

Despite being opposites, Eva and Lucas found something in each other. After the death of his wife, Lucas chose to distance himself from others, keeping his pain to himself. He never thought that one Christmas, a woman will walk into his apartment, will put a giant Christmas tree inside and make him fall in love again. No, he never thought that Eva's singing and cooking will get through his icy personality. But he doesn't want to hurt Eva so he tries to push her away even though all he wants to do is pull her closer to him. Eva, on the other hand, knew what she's getting into when she starts feeling something for Lucas. She's honest so she never hides her feelings but what can she do when Lucas can't do the same? She really wants to be what her grandmother wanted her to be, to be the sunshine not the rain, but love hurts and Lucas is an ass.

I think everything in this book is perfect. The characters, the plot, the writing style and the snow! There are only two seasons here in our country; summer and rainy, so we don't get snow that's why I love reading about them. I think snow makes Christmas more magical and more romantic! Anyhow, I really enjoy this book. If you want a fun, Christmas romance with endearing characters, this one is for you.

Book: Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

★★★★/★★★★★

“I somehow knew that the particulars didn't matter. She was my heart, she was half of me, and nothing, certainly not a few measly hundred miles, was ever going to change that.”

Okay, so SYBG is my fourth Morgan Matson book and if you're a fan of books about friendship, love and summer fun, you should read this! This is my fourth Matson book and ever since reading The Unexpected Everything (my first) and loving it sooo much, I knew I gotta read her other books. You can read my review of her other books here: Amy & Roger's Epic Detour and Second Chance Summer.

Since You've Been Gone tells the story of Emily Hughes when she wakes up one day to find her best friend, Sloane, gone. She and Sloane have been best friends for two years so Sloane and her family just disappearing without a word worries her. Emily doesn't know where Sloane has gone to and she's sure that if ever Sloane will leave town, she'll definitely tell Emily. Because that's what best friends would do, right? But when it's been two weeks and Sloane still hasn't picked up her phone or replied to any of Emily's messages, Emily doesn't know what else to do. Until a letter, or to be exact, a list, came for her. Emily is sure it's from Sloane by the writing alone but what she doesn't understand is why would Sloane send her a list. But it doesn't matter, all Emily knew is that it's from Sloane and it's something.

1. Kiss a stranger.
2. Go skinny-dipping.
3. Steal something.
4. Break something.
5. Penelope.
6. Ride a dern horse, ya cowpoke.
7. 55 S Ave. Ask for Mona.
8. The backless dress. And somewhere to wear it.
9. Dance until dawn.
10. Share some secrets in the dark.
11. Hug a Jamie.
12. Apple picking at night.
13. Sleep under the stars.

I can understand how Emily is feeling without Sloane to spend her summer with. Because while Emily is the awkward, shy one, Sloane is the out-going, friendly and adventurous one. Sloane makes Emily feel braver and she encourages her to do things Emily would never dare to do. They have everything planned out for the summer, how it's going to be their best yet, so Sloane's sudden disappearance freaks out Emily. But with the arrival of the list, Emily feels like it's a way to find Sloane. She thinks that maybe, just maybe, if she finishes everything on the list then Sloane will miraculously just comes back.

I love the concept of the list and it actually reminded me of the times when I used to have lists of things I'll do on summer too. It included crazy things like Jump into the pool with your clothes on and yeah, Dance until dawn which I really enjoyed! Sloane's list is a little bolder but I was glad for Emily for she's able to finish everything on it. Kiss a stranger is crazy but Skinny-dipping is definitely crazier. I'm also happy that the list brings new people into Emily's life because if it used to be Emily-and-Sloane before, it's Emily and her friends (Frank, Collins and Dawn) now.

The characters are all endearing and Frank, oh Frank! I wasn't sure about him at first but as I read on I came to like him more and more. I mean, he's just so nice and smart and perfect! He sees Emily when no one else does and I love how their friendship blooms into something more. Their runs together are probably my favorite part especially the mixed tapes! Then there's Collins and Dawn, too. Collins is so adorable and I loved the friendship he has with Frank. He's funny and he acts all cool but deep inside he knew the real him. Dawn, on the other hand, comes out at the right time in the book and I love how she and Emily instantly clicked. Next thing we knew they are hanging out and summer is fun again. It's just sad to see how their rift is never resolved in the book. And of course, there's also Emily's family. I like Beckett and how cute he is! I don't have a brother so I'm so fond of little/older brothers in books.

“I don’t think you have to do something so big to be brave. And it’s the little things that are harder anyway.”

Emily and Frank's romance is also adorable. It's cute and I love it everytime Frank says the right things to Emily. They slowly work on their friendship, from being running mates to being Living Room Theater actors together which I think is really sweet. But the latter part of the book where Frank went to see Lissa and Emily thought Frank has chosen Lissa over her, I was a bit frustrated with Emily because if she thought Frank would choose Lissa after their kiss, then she's a dumbass. I mean, didn't she see that things between Frank and her are going right and Lissa is already history?

He looked right at me as he gave me a half smile. “You're the brightest thing in the room”, he said. He lifted his hand from my waist, and slowly, carefully brushed a stray lock of hair from my cheek. “You shine.”

My breath caught in my throat. People said those kinds of things about Sloane-not about me.

“What?” frank asked, his eyes on mine.

“Just...” I took a shaky breath. “Nobody's ever said something like that to me.”

“Then they don't see what I see,” he said.

So the book ends with Emily finally figuring out where Sloane is. She goes to find her and after a long drive, with Frank, she finally found her best friend. We get to see Emily and Sloane's friendship with flashbacks and with them, we see why Emily is so attached with Sloane. They had a great friendship, not all fun but they also had some small fights and misunderstanding and sometimes Emily feeling inferior, but they were what made their friendship stronger.

Overall, I super enjoyed this book! I love the characters, the story, the romance and everything else. Highly recommended if you love a fun, summery book (with lists and mixed tapes!)

Book: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

 ★★★★/★★★★★

“I knew that this couldn't last- that there were people waiting and he had things to do and this couldn't go on forever. But in that moment it was like everything fades away and there was only me and Clark and the possibility of us- whatever we might become- stretching forward in a hundred different directions, all of them unexpected, each one better than the last, the ending not yet written.”

Lighthearted and entertaining, The Unexpected Everything was my first book of Morgan Matson. It was one of those books I wished I'd read with my bestfriends because like Andie, I have three crazy bestfriends who I missed hanging out with. It was a fun read and the characters were all easy to love.

I definitely enjoyed this book and I can give you five reasons why.
First, the girls/friendship. Alexandra "Andie" Walker is a smart, determined girl who has everything planned out for her summer. She has three bestfriends; Palmer (the optimist), Toby (the hopeless romantic) and Bri (the happy-go-lucky). While Andie tries to survive her summer with a new job (walking dogs) that she really didn't want to take but didn't have a choice, she has friends by her side who support her unconditionally. She has three bestfriends to tell her if she has dog hair all over her or her party dress is too sexy. I liked how the friendship in this book was portrayed with all the meet-ups at the diner, the boy-talks, the pool party, the scavenger hunt and all the group texts they had. And of course, the drama. The four of them are basically sisters at heart and their friendship is everlasting. Until someone keeps a secret and the others find out about it.

Second, Bertie and the other dogs. Don't you just love everything that involves dogs? I mean, they're cute and they always want to play with you and they smooch you! I instantly loved the cover of this book the moment I saw it because there are dogs and it's lovely. How Bertie played a big role in the book was also cute.

Third, father-daughter relationship. Andie's father, Alexander Walker, is a prominent congressman. But a scandal is tagged on his name right now, affecting his career and endangering his place in congress. He wanted only the best for his family but when Andie's mom died five years ago, he became distant and Andie felt like she's lost her dad too. Her dad became busier and barely gave time to her. But now that he's not allowed to work (which was all he ever did) because of the on going investigation on his case, he's spending more time at home, with Andie. And as they spend time together which is awkward at first, Andie and her father eventually stop tiptoeing around each other and decided to face their father-daughter issue head on which in the end works out perfectly.

DAD
Hey, hon. Make sure to get some gas on your way home from Clark's. I don't want you to run out on the way to Mystic.
ME
Sure. But what do you mean "Clark's"? I'm at Palmer's. We're watching educational television.
DAD
Don't make me GPS the car again.
ME
Gas. Sure.
Clark says hi.
DAD
Get me a summary of his new book and all is forgiven.
ME
I'll see what I can do
Clark says if you promise no Secret Service agents he'll think about it
DAD
Tell him he's got a deal.
Fourth, the emojis. Didn't we all pass that phase when we were so in love with emojis that those were all we used? Like 👧🚗🍕👌and ☀️🚗🍨🍨👙🌊🌊🏊 and 🍔🍟🍎🍜🍕🍹 or just simply 👊!

Fifth, C.B. McCallister. Cute. Older. Shy. Fantasy novel writer who published his first book at the age of fourteen. How cool is that? I loved that Clack is not your typical boy next door but a little mysterious and deep. He loves writing but after publishing his first two books, he thinks that he's done. Until he meets new friends and a new girl who he loves making up stories with and walking dogs with.

Overall, it was a lovely book with dogs and emojis and bestfriends and cute boys. In short, you should read it!

“In all the movies Toby has made us watch, it was always somewhere very romantic. On top of the Empire State building, on a rain-streaked airport runway, at a New Year's Eve party. This moment did not, an any of the movies I could recall, take place in a bookstore in New Jersey packed with fantasy-novel readers, many of whom were in costume.

Some People You Meet In Your Life

1. The Eternal Family. Your loving parents, your beautiful sisters, your handsome brothers and all your other relatives. They are the people who were there from the start and are always beside you all the time. They've watched you grow up and they know every little thing about you from your favorite food to your greatest dream. You spend most of your time with them, sharing your experiences and telling them all the good and bad things in your life. They are the people who will never ever leave you. They are the people who care and love you so much.

2. The Bestfriends. The people who are crazy enough to be your friends. They treat you like a sister/brother or sometimes like a maid. You can laugh with them, cry with them, and just do anything with them even if it's going to McDonald's at 3 in the morning. They are the people who know your secrets and will use them against you just for fun. The people you share everything with; food, stories, clothes and all the good and bad stuff in your life. They love you just the way you are even if you're crazy and loud and a one big pain in the head. You share your adventures with them and together you plan to travel the world one day.

3. The Good Friends. People you often see but are always there when you need a friend. The ones you go out with only once a month but feel like you still know them your whole life. The people you can always count on because they know that they can count on you too. The Hey-I-Miss-You-Let's-Have-Ice-Cream friends you can always have a good laugh with.

4. The Just-Passing-By Guys. Those guys you meet in your life that at one point will make you think and believe they're the one. Those guys who will make you feel special for a while but then after some time will leave you in a blink of an eye. Those guys you thought you could have a future with. Those guys.

5. The One That Got Away. That one person who will always have a piece of your heart. That someone you've tried forgetting years after years but until now you still can't. That someone who once made you feel like you were the most special girl/guy in the world and who gave you everything. That person you wished you didn't take for granted. That person you shared so much with that everything reminds you of him/her. That one special person who can always, always, make you feel like a fool for losing him/her. The one who will forever have a place in your heart.

6. The Bitches. Do I need to say more? They are the liars, the backstabbers and the unhappy people who are always jealous and who always want to drag you down. Period.

7. The Long Distance Friends. Your friends who are far from you or live in other countries and the people you meet and talk with online. They are the ones you talk with in your social media accounts and other websites. You become friends with them because you like the same shows or games or artist. You can relate with each other especially when talking about something you both love. They can be anyone and you don't care just as long as you respect each other.

8. The Stars/Idols. The people you admire and wish to be friends with someday. Those artists or idols or groups or bands you really love who inspire you and give you something to be crazy about.

9. The One Who Inspires You. At some point you have that someone who greatly influences your life. Someone who makes you see things differently and changes your view in life. A person who helps you become better, stronger and more positive in life. He/She supports and encourages you to do the things you love and will always tell you to follow your dreams.

10. The One Guy You Will Spend The Rest of Your Life With. The one who will make you the happiest person in the world. Your true love, your forever, your one and only. He/She will make you feel all the kinds of love in the world and will never ever leave you. Someone you can trust, someone you can tell all your secrets to and someone who accepts all of you. The person you can call at 2 in the morning just because you can't sleep, the person you can go with to your favorite band's concert, the person who knows all your imperfections but still love you and the person who will do everything just to keep you by his/her side. That one special guy.

Book: Playlist For The Dead By Michelle Falkoff

★★★/★★★★★

Sam was Hayden's best and only friend. When Hayden committed suicide, Sam was left with a playlist Hayden made before he took his life. Now it was up to Sam to figure out why his bestfriend has done it and what the meaning behind the playlist was.

It was a good book. And that's all I can say, I guess.
A my-bestfriend-committed-suicide-so-I-have-to-deal-with-it-or-let-it-ruin-me-too kind of story that has moving and strong parts. First chapters got me so into it but when I realized that it wouldn't get any further than what I expected it to be, I'd stopped hoping. And I did get why everyone thought it was their fault why it happened because somehow they were involved but it was just so frustrating to read them blaming themselves and claiming it was all their fault. I didn't also see how the playlist helped. Aside from giving Sam little hints through lyrics and memories and letting him know that his bestfriend used to listen to music he thought he hated, I don't think it had helped him at all. I don't know, maybe I just didn't get it.

Anyway, I liked how Sam finally got over it and accepted the fact that Hayden wouldn't be his only bestfriend in the world. I know it was unfortunate and hard for Sam what happened to Hayden but sometimes even though we thought we really knew or understand a person, even when we talked and shared them everything, there are still things that we really don't see and understand about them. Things the person keeps for himself.

I honestly wanted this to be more because I really liked the idea of the playlist helping Sam solve the mystery behind his bestfriend's suicide but it was kind disappointing. Anyhoo, I give it 2.5-3 stars!

Book: The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West

★★★/★★★★★

I kinda had an idea how this book would be but somehow it proved me wrong. It was actually better than I thought and I liked it. And though I didn't really like some of the characters, like Gia's parents, still the story was good. It had some kilig moments and I-like-to-strangle-Jules moments but what I liked the most was the part where Gia and Bec were on Bec's room and they were exorcising their demons. Lol. I also liked it when they threw baseballs at Will's. I'm not sure but I think breaking things when you're mad or something really helps.

 Synopsis from Goodreads:
When Gia Montgomery's boyfriend, Bradley, dumps her in the parking lot of her high school prom, she has to think fast. After all, she'd been telling her friends about him for months now. This was supposed to be the night she proved he existed. So when she sees a cute guy waiting to pick up his sister, she enlists his help. The task is simple: be her fill-in boyfriend—two hours, zero commitment, a few white lies. After that, she can win back the real Bradley.

The problem is that days after prom, it's not the real Bradley she's thinking about, but the stand-in. The one whose name she doesn't even know. But tracking him down doesn't mean they're done faking a relationship. Gia owes him a favor and his sister intends to see that he collects: his ex-girlfriend's graduation party—three hours, zero commitment, a few white lies.

Just when Gia begins to wonder if she could turn her fake boyfriend into a real one, Bradley comes waltzing back into her life, exposing her lie, and threatening to destroy her friendships and her new-found relationship.

It's a cute and sweet story that's why I like it. :)

Movie: Barely Lethal 2015

/

Watched this film with my friends and we enjoyed it. :)

The story is about Agent 83 (Hailee Steinfeld) who grew up at Prescott Academy where they train orphans to become government agents. Despite being the best on the field, Agent 83 has always been curious about a lot of things especially in the outside world. She always dreamed of having a normal life. But her mentor, Hardman (Samuel L. Jackson) also discourages them from being attached on anything or anyone because "No Attachment" is their number one rule. So secretly, she reads teen magazines and watches teen movies like Mean Girls and Bring It On.

The story continues when Agent 83 finds an opportunity to walk away from the life she's always known after accomplishing a mission but falling into a river because wanted arms dealer Victori Knox (Jessica Alba) tries to kill her. She thinks about it twice but she really wants to have a normal life.

It's really nice and funny and I love how Megan (Agent 83) tries to cope up with her new life, school and friends and is trying her best to be just normal like others. She faces new problems and hardships but she's willing to go through it just to have the life she's always wanted.

Here's the trailer of the movie:

KDrama: Who Are You? School 2015

Main Characters:
Kim So hyun as Go Eun byul/ Lee Eun bi
Yook Sung jae as Gong Tae kwang
Nam Joo hyun as Han Yi ahn

My first School series was School 2013 which I really loved. My sister and I watched it together and it was when we fell in love with Lee Jong suk and Kim Woo bin. :") We loved the story because we can relate to it since it tells the story of students while they're in school and everything that's happening to them. It was such a great drama that we were excited when it was announced that it will be back with Who Are You? School 2015!

Synopsis: Wikipedia
Go Eun-byul and Lee Eun-bi are identical twins separated at birth. Eun-bi lives at House of Love, an orphanage in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, where the younger residents look up to her as a mother figure. However, she hides the fact that she is bullied at school by a gang of mean girls led by Kang So-young, while teachers turn a blind eye.
On the other hand, Go Eun-byul is the most popular girl at Sekang High School, the most prestigious private high school in Seoul's Gangnam District. Eun-byul's best friends are Cha Song-joo and Lee Shi-jin, and she shares a mutual attraction with Han Yi An, the school's star swimmer. They have been friends since they were 8.
Eun-bi and Eun-byul look exactly alike, but only Eun-byul is aware of the other's existence. Unlike the cheerful Eun-bi, Eun-byul is prickly and secretive. One day, on a school field trip to Tongyeong, Eun-byul mysteriously disappears. At the same time, Eun-bi is unjustly expelled from her school and jumps off a bridge in a suicide attempt. Ten days later, the injured and amnesiac Eun-bi is mistaken for her twin Eun-byul, and the latter's adoptive mother takes her home to Seoul, where she starts living as Eun-byul.

It's also nice that Kim So hyun and Sung jae are the lead characters because I love them both. So hyun looks like Son Ye jin who I also love. :")

Screencaps:
Kim So hyun looking like Son Ye jin

There's always that one guy in every drama that will make you fall in love because of their "pasaway" character. And for this drama, it's Gong Tae kwang.  Hihi :")

Eun bi: Were you my close friend?
Tae kwang: I doubt it.
Eun bi: It's funny, huh? That I have to ask such questions whenever I meet someone.
Tae kwang: Well, should I tell you this? You probably don't know since you lost your memory. I didn't accept your feelings for me, but you used to follow me around big time. Texting and calling me. You were such a nuisance.
 Eun bi: I did?
Tae kwang: Yes, you did.

And then there's the good guy...

Eun bi: You know what you said yesterday? I was grateful at first, but I thought about it and I got upset. Yi ahn: About what?
Eun bi: I'm what? I have no manners, I'm rude and you sometimes want to smack me? Why are you friends with someone like that?
Yi ahn: Sometimes I wonder that too.

*I like that Yi ahn and Eun byul grew up together that they can joke around about anything and I also like that even though he thinks that Eun bi is Eun byul who just lost her memories, he still treats her the same saying she's rude and have no manners. Lol.

 Tae kwang: What's this?
Yi ahn: Didn't you come to return the bag? You did, so that's that.
Tae kwang: (looks annoyed) No you're wrong. I came here to see Go Eun byul.
Yi ahn: (becomes serious) (taps Tae kwang on the shoulder) See her tomorrow.

*It's when Tae kwang starts to show interest in the new Eun byul that Yi ahn starts to get a little protective too.

Adorable Tae kwang is adorable. :")

Confidence like this is cute. :")

Isn't it sweet when someone asks you to skip class with him? HAHAHA xD

I always feel sorry for the characters like of Tae kwang because no matter how hard he tries, he always knows that he can't have Eun bi. :(

Eun bi: Hey, Han Yi ahn!
Yi ahn: (stops jogging) What?
Eun bi: My... bike chain came off.
Yi ahn: So what?
Eun bi: I said, my bike chain came off!
Yi ahn: And?
Eun bi: I... can't go to you. I can't go to you... So, can't you come to me?
Yi ahn: (jogs back to her)

1.. 2.. Smile! :D

Eun bi: Gong tae kwang? What brings you here at this hour?
Tae kwang: I was waiting for you all this time. What else would bring me here?

Now this is sad. :"(

Then there's the night when you tell her what you really feel...
*But... stilll... I like you.
And then the next day, his hair is already black. :(

It's nice that somehow Tae kwang and Eun bi are getting closer but still it hurts for Tae kwang because he knows that friends is all they can be. But who knows, right? I still have two more episodes to finish and I'm yet to find out.

I'm not sure where their relationship will go but I really wish they end up together. Never mind Yi ahn since he already has Eun byul. Tsk.

Then there's the surprise kiss. :)

I still have two more episodes to finish and I'm excited to see how all of this will end.  I just hope it will be as good as I expected! :)

UPDATE!
As expected, Eun bi chooses Yi an.

And now the heartbreaking part when Tae kwang has to let Eun bi go.
It hurts when you love someone but you have to let her go.

 END!!
