Book: Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino

★★★★/★★★★★

I love this book in so many ways and it's one of those books I will always remember.

Grace and Matt were college lovers. Since that first day Matt moved in the senior house and he saw Grace, he knew he'd love her. Grace instantly felt the same way and since then they took their relationship slowly and carefully because they knew the consequences if they didn't. They spent most of their time together and no one can separate them until Matt had to go to South America for an internship that summer. It was when everything fell apart. And for the next fifteen years, they lost all contact and neither have an idea what the life of the other had been all those years.

Before We Were Strangers is the book that will make you think of your what-if's, what could've been's and if-only's. It tells us a story of two people who could've made it until the end if only they made a different decision. Well, they did make it to the end but for them it felt like they missed a decade and a half of their life for not spending it together.

Their story was really beautiful and heartbreaking and sweet and beautiful! I loved how Matt and Grace were so in love with each other and how they still loved each other even after so many years. Their story was so messed up but all that mattered was they still found each other in the end.

“The present is our own. The right-this-second, the here-and-now, this moment before the next, is ours for the taking. It’s the only free gift the universe has to offer. The past doesn’t belong to us anymore, and the future is just a fantasy, never guaranteed. But the present is ours to own. The only way we can realize that fantasy is if we embrace the now.”
