Poem: With You

I see the beauty of life
when I look in your eyes,
Your touch, your words, your lips,
everything feels nice,
with you.

I feel my heart beating fast
whenever you hold my hand,
You smile, I smile, we kiss,
everything is perfect,
with you.

I love the feeling when you say
“Take care”, “Eat well”, and “I love you!”
You make me happy, you make me feel important,
And I’m so in love,
with you.

Book: Worlds of You by Beau Taplin

★★★★★/★★★★★

My Demons
You deserve everything there is to give.
Breakfast in bed.
Diamonds on your doorstep.
Little notes hidden everywhere.
I want you to have all of my secrets
and all of my demons,
because you especially deserve
all the parts of me
I’m usually too afraid to share.

This. Is. Beautiful. This poetry collection by Beau Taplin will surely capture your heart from the very first page. It’s simply wonderful that I can not stop myself from reading. I knew right from the beginning that this will be a special book for me and I was right. Because until now I’m still in love with it. The words, the emotion and everything is perfect!
Fallback
My heart does not
have a fall back,
no plan B
or fail-safe,
it’s you
or no one else.
I’ve read several poetry books before but aside from The Princess Saves Herself In This One by Amanda Lovelace, this one is by far my favorite!! The book is divided into two sections, Heart and Spirit. The first part is all about matters of the heart, for when you’re in love, heartbroken, need encouraging or facing challenges. The latter is more on self-love, healing and understanding. Taplin’s words are inspiring and beautiful thay they all touched me! I loved it! I adore his work!
Overall, it’s highly recommended! Like, everyone should read this one!

Poem: Trying

I lay down for today
Trying to forget the day’s sadness
And every yesterday’s

I close my eyes now
Trying to tell myself it’s okay
And that I will be

Then I dream about myself
Trying to wake up from this nightmare
And all the others

I try and try and try
Believing I’ll wake up soon
And then I try again

Poem: Why?

10.42 pm

I miss you tonight
I miss your voice that tells me goodnight
I long for the sweet words that make me smile
Why aren’t you with me tonight?

I miss your touch
I miss it when you tell me you miss me so much
I want to feel your warmth all around me
Why are we losing touch?

I miss you
I miss you so much
I need you tonight and forever
Why aren’t you kissing me goodnight?

Book: Leave This Song Behind by John Meyer, Stephanie Meyer, Adam Halwitz, Cindy Spertner

★★12/★★★★★

"Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful."

*Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for providing me with a copy of this book.*

Another poetry book I finished last week this time a collection of entries submitted by teenagers to Teen Ink. Some of the best were chosen and put together to create this book.

I admit that I found this one different from the other poetry books I've read but this is as lovely just the same. Sometimes I forgot that teenagers actually wrote these poems and while I liked some, the others just didn't make sense to me which I think was okay. It's divided into sections, each with style and impact of its own.

I can't say that I loved this one since there where times when I skipped pages especially when I can't connect with the words. Don't get me wrong, there are some which I really liked but I think the book as a whole isn't just for me.

Book: Stuff I've Been Feeling Lately by Alicia Cook

★★★/★★★★★
Stuff I've Been Feeling Lately is another poetry book I was excited to get my hands on. It talks about grief, loss, love and such which will surely hit you at some point. The book is divided into two sides, Side A and Side B, and each side has track list like a cassette tape.
Side A has full length poems, some I related with and some I totally loved! The song associated at the end of each poem also added some impact which I also liked. Side B has black out version of some poems from Side A which I think are my favorites.

Track Twenty Five
I am never going to be the girl with the perfectly
straightened hair or creased clothing. Even at my
most put together, I’ll look a bit   d i s h e v e l e d.
My socks will never match, but no one will notice
that except for my lover and airport security. At
the most inopportune times, I’ll have a run in my
stocking or a runny nose.
I’ll combine foods even a pregnant woman
wouldn’t crave. On way more than one occasion,
my friends have said out loud, I would not want to
spend one minute in your head.
I was always aware of what I encompassed. I have
never tried to conform because I did not feel the
pressure to do so (thanks, Mom!). Yes, this self-
assurance led to my grade school years being a
living hell, but even then I recognized that time
of my life as temporary .
I do not fear, nor am I ashamed of, myself.
As long as I am happy, it is my God-given right
to be odd. To be my true self.

Poem:Prove Me Wrong

I’ll give you my heart, not in half
Because I want you to have all of me
My smile, my pain, my whole being
If you take it, you take everything

I’ll give you my word, that sweet “yes”
But promise you’d never break my heart
My mood swings, my hobbies, my past
Accept them and I promise we’ll last

Just prove me wrong, that you’re not like the others
That you won’t hurt me too
Then my heart, my words, my all
My everything will be yours

Book: Her by Pierre Alex Jeanty

★★★★★/★★★★★

She hesitates
when it comes to opening up
because she has fallen in love
too quickly before and none of those
she fell for opened their arms to catch her.

Can you blame her for making sure that
your hands are big enough
to hold her heart,
your intentions are true enough
for your arms to open,
and you’re strong enough to catch her.

Another poetry collection that I totally loved! I related to almost everything inside this book and every piece spoke to me. It's empowering and all the feelings were real that I was touched though sometimes it hurt.

She is independent, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like having someone she can depend on.

It's really a lovely book with beautifully written and inspiring words. If you find yourself looking for a great poetry collection, I highly recommend you pick this one up!

You deserve
to be with
someone
who searches
for the beautiful
things in you

Book: This Modern Love by Will Darbyshire

★★★★/★★★★

Dear Danny,
You are the definition of cliché;
Showing up at my doorstep with flowers,
Writing poems and love letters,
Framing our memories on your bedroom walls,
And filling up my life with laughter.
So predictable but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
To many more years together,
Faly
Singapore

I finished This Modern Love in one sitting last night and let me tell you, it's amazing! I accidentally found this book while browsing for new books to read and I'm glad I did when I did! It's a collection of letters, stories and photographs which are all lovely, heartwarming but also heartbreaking.

It's divided into three sections; beginning, middle and end. The beginning includes letters about crushes and when you first start falling in love. It's really fun reading all those letters, some I definitely related with and most were adorable. The middle section includes thank you letters sent by those in a relationship and the end section is composed of letters by people who had their heart broken before.

To my crush,
You’re the reason for the soft smile upon my face, the reason for my rosy cheeks and racing heart.
Thank you, just for being you.

Dear —— ,
I pushed you away and put up a wall to keep you out. To keep from getting hurt. I was scared of how I felt. I was scared I would hurt you, that you would hurt me. But now I know that you are perfect, perfect for me. I want you, no I need you. I want to spend every night holding your hand and be wrapped in your embrace. I want someone to care about me and protect me from all that is bad in this world. I just want you. I want you to love me again like I love you.

***
Dear guy who I used to know,
I wish you never took me to the movies in my favorite cinema. I wish you never took me to my favorite restaurant. I wish you never spent christmas with me. I wish you never took me to Amsterdam. I wish you never kissed and hugged me in my room. I wish you never told me that you loved me at my favorite spot in my hometown. I wish you never gave me my favorite book for my birthday.
You’re gone now, but all my favorite places and things still remind me of you. They aren’t my favorite places and things anymore.

I really enjoyed reading the whole book. It has a good concept, letting people express their feelings through letters and if only I knew about this project, I would've joined and sent my letters.

Poem: Here we go again

I’ve been trying to forget everything about you
Your smile, your words, your touch
It’s hard but I’m getting there
Now here you go again reminding me too much.

It’s been months since I last saw you
I thought we’d never see each other again
So I tried moving on and letting you go
But here you go again reminding me of when

We’ll hold each other's hands
We’ll look into each other’s eyes
We’ll laugh and dance and sing on top of our lungs
And now here I go again remembering the why’s

Why we stopped caring
Why we never said what we mean
Why we didn’t try hard enough
Now here I go again wondering what could’ve been

Should we listen to what we’re feeling?
Or should we just pretend it’s nothing?
Because lately I’ve been thinking
What if we give it another try?

Book: Salt by Nayyirah Waheed

 ★★★/★★★★★

even the small poems mean something. they are often
whales in the bodies of tiny fish.

Well, it took me a long time to finally get around this book but now I know why a lot of people loved it.

This poetry collection is beautiful but it hurts at the same time. It touches the subject like racism, sexism and those are difficult but important topics. Some pieces hit me hard but some I just didn't connect with.

Poem: Most Times

Sometimes you push me away
Sometimes I hate you
But most times I choose to stay
Because I understand what you do.

Sometimes you make me want to cry
Sometimes I hide
But most times I accept your lies
Because I still want you by my side.

Sometimes you are too much
Sometimes I break down
But most times I miss your touch
Because I still love you deep down.

Sometimes it hurts
Sometimes I want to give up
But most times I ignore it
Most times I love you too much.

Poem: I wish upon…

I look at you but you look away
You don’t even listen to what I say
We shout, we fight, we cry,
Sometimes I get tired listening to your lies.

You don’t hold my hand anymore
We just started slamming every door
You walk away, you cheat, you pretend,
Sometimes I just want this to end.

But I’m staying because I love you
I still believe we can make it through
I hope, I pray, I hold on,
Sometimes I even wish upon a stone.

Book: Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur

 ★★★★/★★★★★

you've touched me
without even
touching me

I wasn't prepared to read this book. I didn't expect it to be this powerful, to be overflowing with emotions. Now I'm not sure what to feel because I'm so overwhelmed. This book has touched me and it's very beautiful. The words, the messages, the illustrations, everything. It's meant to be read.

The book is divided into four chapters; the hurting, the loving, the breaking and the healing, and each page will surely make you feel something, if not tug at your heart.
you might not have been my first love
but you were the love that made
all the other loves
irrelevant
***
i don't want to have you
to fill the empty parts of me
i want to be full on my own
i want to be so complete
i could light a whole city
and then
i want to have you
cause the two of us combined
could set it on fire
***
nothing is safer
than the sound of you
reading out loud to me

- the perfect date

Book: I Wrote This For You and Only ou by pleasefindthis

 ★★★12/★★★

THE STONES MAKE SLOWLY
If you are lucky, one day you'll get a chance to have your life defined by how much you loved and were loved by someone else.

I have to say this one connected with me more than the first two collections. I know some were from the previous books but the new ones tugged at me at some point. Though there were also times when I had a hard time connecting the pictures with the words and the meaning was lost to me. Still, I enjoyed the whole book.

THE PAIN UNFELT
I have told myself you are not allowed to hurt me anymore. That's what hurts most.

THE ENDLESS NIGHT AND ALL IT PROMISES
You can be beautiful and new forever. Give me forever and I'll prove it.

THE WAVES PUT YOU TO SLEEP
I love you like I love the see. And I'm ok with drowning.

Poem: Everything Gets Better

Tomorrow you’ll be fine
Just close your eyes for tonight
Rest your weary heart and pray
Then everything will be alright.

Don’t worry about the nightmares
I’ll watch over you until morning
I’ll fight away the monsters
So sleep tight and wake up smiling.

Tomorrow is another day
I promise things will get better
It may be hard right now,
But I promise it won’t last forever.

Book: Pillow Thoughts by Courtney Peppernell

★★★★/★★★★★

in the end
we
as in you and me
were never
meant to be

This is one sad, heartbreaking but honest and at the same time lovely poetry collection. It's divided into sections like when you're in love or feeling sad or need encouragement which I think is convenient since you can just flip to the section you feel like reading and be lost in the words.

I like the simplicity of it, the rawness and the flood of emotions you will feel when you read something that completely touches you. I really liked this one and if you need a good poetry book, try this one.

You can be in love at 3am or 5pm,
and sometimes it is with someone else
and other times it is with the way the sky looks
on a Saturday afternoon.

***

We should kiss.
Not because you passed my way by chance,
but because you stopped
and I haven't been the same since.
