Book: The Rosie Project (Don Tillman #1) by Graeme Simsion

★★★/★★★★★

“I asked you here tonight because when you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

The Rosie Project had been sitting on my TBR for years now and I'm just glad I was finally able to get around it. It's one of those book I read at night, on my bed, before sleeping, which made me smile and sometimes giggle. The first hundred pages were a slow read for me, but enough to entertain and get me glued to the story.

Don Tillman, an Associate Professor of genetics, is looking for a suitable life partner and thinks that the best way to find one is to create a questionnaire. He's socially challenged, awkward around people and lets logic rule his life rather than emotions. Certain that he'll be able to find the perfect wife using the questionnaire, he starts handing them out, posting them on sites and attending speed-dating. He also turns to his friend Gene, a Psychology Professor, for help since he's experienced when it comes to human relationships. Then one day, Don meets Rosie, a strong-minded and cheeky girl who is his exact opposite. Rosie smokes, is always late, drinks like a man and is totally unsuitable for him but something about her makes Don wants to spend time with her.

“I haven’t changed my mind. That’s the point! I want to spend my life with you even though it’s totally irrational. And you have short earlobes. Socially and genetically there’s no reason for me to be attracted to you. The only logical conclusion is that I must be in love with you.”

This book is actually charming and I don't hate Don but sometimes he annoyed me. I mean, yes, he's socially awkward and all but his actions are sometimes too frustrating! But despite that, I like that he recognizes his talents and uses them. He's smart, logical and though he's a creature of habit, he's willing to change and he tries after meeting Rosie.

“Humans often fail to see what is close to them and obvious to others.”

I liked a lot of things about this book but I think I wasn't smitten by it. It was a fun read, the characters are endearing but the plot is somewhat predictable. Nonetheless, I enjoyed reading this book. There were times I felt like the story was dragged but nonetheless, I enjoyed reading this book. I also read that it has a sequel but I think I'm putting that one aside for now.

TV Series: Confess 2017

Main Characters:
Katie Leclerc as Auburn Reed
Ryan Cooper as Owen Gentry
Rocky Myers as Trey Taylor
Elliot Smithe as A.J.
Amy Pahn as Emory Le
Kyle Secor as Callahan Gentry

I remember reading and loving the book so much I've re-read it several times. I just love everything about the book―the lovely cover, the endearing characters, the touching plot and Colleen Hoover is just an amazing writer!

So imagine my surprise when it was announced that there was going to be a mini series for the book! I was like OMG! OMG! OMG! And no, I wasn't calling Owen, I was just so so excited! Then they announced who will play the characters (I like both Katie and Ryan, by the way) and then there was the shooting and Colleen teasing us with photos and then the trailer came out and then it was April!!!

[Warning: This post contains screenshots from the series]

I watched the whole series on April 5 (one sitting) and I loved it! I mean, yes, they changed some aspects of it but it was beautiful nonetheless. I think Katie and Ryan did a great job portraying Auburn and Owen though at first I was having second thoughts about Katie. Don't get me wrong, she's really really good but she wasn't what I expected Auburn to be.

I loved Emory and AJ was super cute! I hated Lydia, of course, but I understand where she was coming from. The face of Trey in my head was definitely not Rocky Myers but I guess he worked out too. The paintings were BEAUTIFUL!!! I especially loved "Every time he touches me, I think of you." And I also had to smile when Colleen appeared at the auction in one of the episodes.

So I guess everything just worked out for this series. It's short, yes, but in those 7 episodes they were able to put life to the beautiful characters of  the book!

***
I'll love you forever even when I can't.
I'll love you forever even when I shouldn't.
When I turn the painting around to face me again, I run my fingers over it. I touch the space between the two hands, and I think about everything between the two of them that is pulling them apart. And I hope, for her sake, that Adam is right. I hope she does have a second fate. Because she deserves it.

Poem: I wish upon…

I look at you but you look away
You don’t even listen to what I say
We shout, we fight, we cry,
Sometimes I get tired listening to your lies.

You don’t hold my hand anymore
We just started slamming every door
You walk away, you cheat, you pretend,
Sometimes I just want this to end.

But I’m staying because I love you
I still believe we can make it through
I hope, I pray, I hold on,
Sometimes I even wish upon a stone.

Book: Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur

 ★★★★/★★★★★

you've touched me
without even
touching me

I wasn't prepared to read this book. I didn't expect it to be this powerful, to be overflowing with emotions. Now I'm not sure what to feel because I'm so overwhelmed. This book has touched me and it's very beautiful. The words, the messages, the illustrations, everything. It's meant to be read.

The book is divided into four chapters; the hurting, the loving, the breaking and the healing, and each page will surely make you feel something, if not tug at your heart.
you might not have been my first love
but you were the love that made
all the other loves
irrelevant
***
i don't want to have you
to fill the empty parts of me
i want to be full on my own
i want to be so complete
i could light a whole city
and then
i want to have you
cause the two of us combined
could set it on fire
***
nothing is safer
than the sound of you
reading out loud to me

Book: Miracle on 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan

★★★★/★★★★★

“I'm a glass half-full sort of person. That's not a crime. You see the bad in people, but I see the good. And I do believe there is good in most people.”

Miracle on 5th Avenue was my first Sarah Morgan book and it didn't disappoint. I actually planned on reading this one last Christmas but since I was kinda busy with other things, I moved reading it until now. I'm also thinking of picking up the first two books in the series since I like Morgan's writing a lot. Maybe some time soon when I find time.

The story centers around Eva who runs an event and concierge business, Urban Genie, with her two best friends, Frank and Paige. Their business covers organizing events to walking dogs to decorating an apartment for Christmas. That's what happens when one of their clients, Mitzy, asks Eva to decorate her grandson's apartment who is away in Vermont, or so they thought. Eva, ever professional and so fond of Mitzy, wholeheartedly agrees thinking that no one is occupying the apartment and she can do her job undisturbed. Little did she know that there's a surprise waiting not only for Mitzy's grandson, Lucas Blade, but also for her.

I'm starting to understand why you don't date much. You're a hopeless romantic and you're waiting for Prince Charming? The faint hint of humor needled her, even though she was used to being teased for her rose-tinted view on life.
No, but even you have to agree Prince Charming is a more appealing character than Jack the Ripper.

I'm a big fan of Christmas romance that's why I enjoyed this book a lot. I adore Eva so much she makes me want to fall in love! With Lucas Blade! Anyway, I think the characters are what I love most in this book. Eva is a hopeless romantic who always looks at the bright side of life. She's kind and sweet and she's the type of friend who never whines. After the death of her grandmother, she tries to live up everything she'd taught her, even being the sunshine in everyone's life even though sometimes she feels like crying. Lucas, on the other hand, believes that you can only love once. We all know he's wrong but he's so stubborn and his walls are all up. He's the exact opposite of Eva, always brooding and writes mystery/horror novel.

Now that they are in a situation they both didn't want but don't have a choice, they decided to just mind their own business. Eva will decorate Lucas's apartment while Lucas writes his book. But having writer's block, the last ting Lucas needs is a singing Eva in his kitchen whose cooking always distracts him! But soon he realizes that Eva is actually the solution to his writer's block.

I like Eva a lot and her personality is very admirable. She's so positive in everything, always seeing the good side of things. I also like her best friends Frankie and Paige. Throughout the book we get to read a little about them and from it I can already tell that I'm going to love them as much as I loved Eva! Mitzy also warmed my heart. She's so sweet and cares so much for both Lucas and Eva.

Lucas was right. Love wasn't a fairy tale. It was messy and painful.

Despite being opposites, Eva and Lucas found something in each other. After the death of his wife, Lucas chose to distance himself from others, keeping his pain to himself. He never thought that one Christmas, a woman will walk into his apartment, will put a giant Christmas tree inside and make him fall in love again. No, he never thought that Eva's singing and cooking will get through his icy personality. But he doesn't want to hurt Eva so he tries to push her away even though all he wants to do is pull her closer to him. Eva, on the other hand, knew what she's getting into when she starts feeling something for Lucas. She's honest so she never hides her feelings but what can she do when Lucas can't do the same? She really wants to be what her grandmother wanted her to be, to be the sunshine not the rain, but love hurts and Lucas is an ass.

I think everything in this book is perfect. The characters, the plot, the writing style and the snow! There are only two seasons here in our country; summer and rainy, so we don't get snow that's why I love reading about them. I think snow makes Christmas more magical and more romantic! Anyhow, I really enjoy this book. If you want a fun, Christmas romance with endearing characters, this one is for you.

Movie: Beauty and the Beast 2017

Like everyone else, I love Beauty and the Beast and since I was young I always wanted to be Belle! Who doesn't, anyway? Growing up, I've watched the animated movie a hundred times and finally watching the live-action movie, I adooooore it! My sisters and I went to see it last week and Emma Watson as Belle is perfect! We loved her, the other characters and the singing, oh the singing! Since my friends already have kids, we're used to playing Beauty and the Beast on tv everytime we meet to keep the kids occupied while we talk.

Love doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be true.

Everything about the movie is perfect from the very beginning. The songs are all amazing and the ones added are also beautiful! The characters are all endearing especially Mrs. Potts and Chip. And since my youngest sister is not familiar with the movie (unbelievable, right?) she had questions and I had to explain her things. I guess she's not just into Disney films unlike me and our other sister, Yana. But nonetheless she enjoyed it and was actually in love with Belle at the end!

Have you seen the film? Hope you loved it as much as we did!

Heavy by Linkin Park ft. Kiiara ♫♪

I don't like my mind right now
Stacking up problems that are so unnecessary
Wish that I could slow things down
I wanna let go but there's comfort in the panic
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything's about me
Yeah I drive myself crazy
Cause I can't escape the gravity

I'm holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy

You say that I'm paranoid
But I'm pretty sure the world is out to get me
It's not like I make the choice
To let my mind stay so fucking messy
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same

I'm holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy

I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning round me just the same
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything's about me

I'm holding on
Why is everything so heavy
Holding on
To so much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy

Why is everything so heavy
Why is everything so heavy

Book: I Wrote This For You and Only ou by pleasefindthis

 ★★★12/★★★

THE STONES MAKE SLOWLY
If you are lucky, one day you'll get a chance to have your life defined by how much you loved and were loved by someone else.

I have to say this one connected with me more than the first two collections. I know some were from the previous books but the new ones tugged at me at some point. Though there were also times when I had a hard time connecting the pictures with the words and the meaning was lost to me. Still, I enjoyed the whole book.

THE PAIN UNFELT
I have told myself you are not allowed to hurt me anymore. That's what hurts most.

THE ENDLESS NIGHT AND ALL IT PROMISES
You can be beautiful and new forever. Give me forever and I'll prove it.

THE WAVES PUT YOU TO SLEEP
I love you like I love the see. And I'm ok with drowning.

Book: Lucian Divine by Renee Carlino

 ★★★12/★★★★

“One thing I do know now is whatever faith you believe in, true love is real... and it endures.”

I have to say it's refreshing to read something new from an author you love. I've read two Renee Carlino books before and loved both! I remember when I was so in love with Before We Were Strangers and then with Swear on This Life and was so excited with the news of Lucian Divine. So then when it was released, I made sure to get a copy right away.

I admit this book was one of my most anticipated books this year and I hate to say this but this book kinda disappointed me. I mean, it started off right with a promising premise and I was enjoying every moment of it but everything after that happened too fast. I mean, I don't have anything against fast-paced love story but theirs just felt rushed. But overall, I still enjoyed this book and I was happy with how things ended.

The story centers around Evey who meets her guardian angel Lucian, not to mention drunk, in a bar after a date gone wrong. Evey finds Lucian funny and yes, stunning and since he looks harmless to her,  she ends up inviting him inside her apartment to sober up. There, Lucian reveals to her that he's actually her guardian angel and thinking that he's just drunk and a few screws loose, Evey plays along with him. Until he proves her that he's really an angel—all wings and poof. When Evey still doesn't believe him, he starts telling her things about her that only her true guardian angel would know.
This is fun, Lucian. You have quite the imagination. My life is complete now. I’ve met an angel who sits in bars, binge drinking and playing stupid songs on the jukebox.”
Lucian knew the consequences of revealing himself to Evey but he doesn't care. He's already on probation for breaking some rules but his feelings for her are stronger and he doesn't give a damn if the big guy up there would punish him. Soon, both Evey and Lucian are having a connection and it's a love that breaks every cosmic law there is.

Lucian is the kind of guy, or guardian angel, you instantly fall in love with. Being a guardian angel and all, his personality surprised me at first because I have this idea of guardian angels in my head and it's very different from Lucian. But despite being cocky and a bit snarky, he's really sweet and charming. He deeply cares for Evey and loves her no matter how wrong and forbidden being in love with a human is. Evey, on the other hand, is also not hard to like. But the fact that she fell in love with Lucian right then and there was a little meh for me. I know they have this connection and she felt attracted to him the first time but still, things happened too fast.

Love doesn't always have the perfect timing. Just wait until you find the right person. Until then, live your life.

The middle part of the book is what I enjoyed most. Here, Evey and Lucian matured a lot as they try to live as normal as they could despite the reality that Lucian is changing over time. They find a way to live and love each other like everything is fine. But of course, there are rules for a reason. And Lucian breaking one of those must face the repercussions.

“Maybe after I was gone, she would remember me and be tormented. Or maybe I'd have to watch her die, and I'd be tormented. And then I realized, that is love. That is life. Brutal and beautiful all in the same..”

The ending definitely made up for the pacing and plot holes. I think it's really sweet and I would've given this book only two stars if it didn't end that way! I mean, I knew Evey and Lucian just have to end up together no matter what and thank God they did! My heart broke for the both of them but I'm just glad they still got the ending they deserved.

This paranormal romance will surely touch your heart and will make you believe that true love endures.

***

I want to see you again, Evey.
Really?
You just have this thing. You're beautiful and funny and smart, and I knew in five minutes I'd want to see you again.
Do you believe in fate? I asked him.
I want to. I'm going to start right now. Can I eat dinner with you tomorrow?
So soon, I thought. But that was the old Evey talking. Yes.
And Monday?
Yes.
Tuesday?
I laughed. Um, that might be pushing it.
Yeah, you're right. I've had a lot of wine.

Book: Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

★★★★/★★★★★

“I somehow knew that the particulars didn't matter. She was my heart, she was half of me, and nothing, certainly not a few measly hundred miles, was ever going to change that.”

Okay, so SYBG is my fourth Morgan Matson book and if you're a fan of books about friendship, love and summer fun, you should read this! This is my fourth Matson book and ever since reading The Unexpected Everything (my first) and loving it sooo much, I knew I gotta read her other books. You can read my review of her other books here: Amy & Roger's Epic Detour and Second Chance Summer.

Since You've Been Gone tells the story of Emily Hughes when she wakes up one day to find her best friend, Sloane, gone. She and Sloane have been best friends for two years so Sloane and her family just disappearing without a word worries her. Emily doesn't know where Sloane has gone to and she's sure that if ever Sloane will leave town, she'll definitely tell Emily. Because that's what best friends would do, right? But when it's been two weeks and Sloane still hasn't picked up her phone or replied to any of Emily's messages, Emily doesn't know what else to do. Until a letter, or to be exact, a list, came for her. Emily is sure it's from Sloane by the writing alone but what she doesn't understand is why would Sloane send her a list. But it doesn't matter, all Emily knew is that it's from Sloane and it's something.

1. Kiss a stranger.
2. Go skinny-dipping.
3. Steal something.
4. Break something.
5. Penelope.
6. Ride a dern horse, ya cowpoke.
7. 55 S Ave. Ask for Mona.
8. The backless dress. And somewhere to wear it.
9. Dance until dawn.
10. Share some secrets in the dark.
11. Hug a Jamie.
12. Apple picking at night.
13. Sleep under the stars.

I can understand how Emily is feeling without Sloane to spend her summer with. Because while Emily is the awkward, shy one, Sloane is the out-going, friendly and adventurous one. Sloane makes Emily feel braver and she encourages her to do things Emily would never dare to do. They have everything planned out for the summer, how it's going to be their best yet, so Sloane's sudden disappearance freaks out Emily. But with the arrival of the list, Emily feels like it's a way to find Sloane. She thinks that maybe, just maybe, if she finishes everything on the list then Sloane will miraculously just comes back.

I love the concept of the list and it actually reminded me of the times when I used to have lists of things I'll do on summer too. It included crazy things like Jump into the pool with your clothes on and yeah, Dance until dawn which I really enjoyed! Sloane's list is a little bolder but I was glad for Emily for she's able to finish everything on it. Kiss a stranger is crazy but Skinny-dipping is definitely crazier. I'm also happy that the list brings new people into Emily's life because if it used to be Emily-and-Sloane before, it's Emily and her friends (Frank, Collins and Dawn) now.

The characters are all endearing and Frank, oh Frank! I wasn't sure about him at first but as I read on I came to like him more and more. I mean, he's just so nice and smart and perfect! He sees Emily when no one else does and I love how their friendship blooms into something more. Their runs together are probably my favorite part especially the mixed tapes! Then there's Collins and Dawn, too. Collins is so adorable and I loved the friendship he has with Frank. He's funny and he acts all cool but deep inside he knew the real him. Dawn, on the other hand, comes out at the right time in the book and I love how she and Emily instantly clicked. Next thing we knew they are hanging out and summer is fun again. It's just sad to see how their rift is never resolved in the book. And of course, there's also Emily's family. I like Beckett and how cute he is! I don't have a brother so I'm so fond of little/older brothers in books.

“I don’t think you have to do something so big to be brave. And it’s the little things that are harder anyway.”

Emily and Frank's romance is also adorable. It's cute and I love it everytime Frank says the right things to Emily. They slowly work on their friendship, from being running mates to being Living Room Theater actors together which I think is really sweet. But the latter part of the book where Frank went to see Lissa and Emily thought Frank has chosen Lissa over her, I was a bit frustrated with Emily because if she thought Frank would choose Lissa after their kiss, then she's a dumbass. I mean, didn't she see that things between Frank and her are going right and Lissa is already history?

He looked right at me as he gave me a half smile. “You're the brightest thing in the room”, he said. He lifted his hand from my waist, and slowly, carefully brushed a stray lock of hair from my cheek. “You shine.”

My breath caught in my throat. People said those kinds of things about Sloane-not about me.

“What?” frank asked, his eyes on mine.

“Just...” I took a shaky breath. “Nobody's ever said something like that to me.”

“Then they don't see what I see,” he said.

So the book ends with Emily finally figuring out where Sloane is. She goes to find her and after a long drive, with Frank, she finally found her best friend. We get to see Emily and Sloane's friendship with flashbacks and with them, we see why Emily is so attached with Sloane. They had a great friendship, not all fun but they also had some small fights and misunderstanding and sometimes Emily feeling inferior, but they were what made their friendship stronger.

Overall, I super enjoyed this book! I love the characters, the story, the romance and everything else. Highly recommended if you love a fun, summery book (with lists and mixed tapes!)

Poem: Everything Gets Better

Tomorrow you’ll be fine
Just close your eyes for tonight
Rest your weary heart and pray
Then everything will be alright.

Don’t worry about the nightmares
I’ll watch over you until morning
I’ll fight away the monsters
So sleep tight and wake up smiling.

Tomorrow is another day
I promise things will get better
It may be hard right now,
But I promise it won’t last forever.
